I realy find it difficult to believe that PdV thought that he should defend Schalk.

Sheridan will probably want to keep his nuts out the rucks next week.

Looks like he may well have been having a feel if you ask me... he may enjoy it if they reciprocate.

Oh, and for good measure the British commentators watch it all, commentate but fail to "see" the punch... typical really. Of course he was grinning...

Sheridan punching a dude in the nuts is not even worthy of a citing ........ I'm so sick of this one sided IRB crap now
That is something I will never understand! I suppose it wasn't a South African that threw that punch. If it was then it would've been a 12week ban according to standards.

I'm glad PDV is standing up for his players regardless of how idiotic it makes him look. Traditionally in SA our coaches have been reluctant to stand up for our idiotic players. They normally condemn their actions and take the inevitably heavy bans by contrast to what the antipodean players get for similar infringements.

It makes no difference to the sentencing process how our coaches respond so let them rather stand up for the players.

As I said in an earlier post I never heard any Ozzie coach condemn Warne when he was at the peak of his stupidity, same when it came to the Paki and English bowlers when it came to their propensity for ball tampering. I don't recall any Samoan coach saying anything other than that's how we play the game when asked about coconut tackles. The Waughs sold information to Indian bookies pertaining to team selections, pitch reports and strategies and what punishment or condemnation did the ARU hand them? They handed Waugh the captaincy as punishment. Hansie does the same thing and is condemned and alienated from every quarter.

It seems PC is very much a South African trait and to be perfectly honest PDV is anything but and to be perfectly honest I find it quite refreshing!!!!

Our players fart when they go into the scrums and we apologizing for it, well fck that!!! Rugby is a physical game in the extreme. There half a dozen more effective ways to hurt a man. I don't believe Burger was purposely trying to gouge his eyes out and if he was well then he deserves the ban...

The Lions will wish that more of the SA players were banned... How else will they win the 3rd and final test? ;)

So he gets 2 weeks for clearing out the ruck and Sheridan punching a dude in the nuts is not even worthy of a citing ........ I'm so sick of this one sided IRB crap now
+1

We are pulling on the shortest end by far

What's 8 wks if you don't play every week? Should be 8 test matches.

IMO Burger should have been substituted immediately after the 10min was up. You don't deserve to play for your country if you do that sort of thing especially in the 1st min...what could have led up to it?
He therefore let his team down and should have been subbed by the coach and irrespective of ban should have been told he is not being considered for rest of year.

Yet we get this from the coach:

he is a genuine f***wit

I really doubt burger was trying to scratch the guys eye out....

They make 4 high tackles and no questions are raised?

If any sense prevails, which is unlikely in SA rugby, then Steven Sykes!

But in all likelihood it will be Bekker.

Nha think Russouw if he is ready will play nr 4 else Muller might get a call.

The good news is that 5 of their players are / were in hospital after saturday :D

You still on about this? Initially you were stating that we were all in the wrong for automatically assuming he would get banned for the "five minutes" footage we saw. Now the judiciary sees it the same way and you are still defending the actions. You aren't Pieter de Villiers are you?

YOU CANNOT HAVE YOUR COACH DEFENDING FOUL PLAY! De Villiers would have been a lot better off rather stating that he would not comment but rather let the law take it's course! He has pretty much said now that he has no problem with his players punching, biting, gouging etc. Is that the message we want sent out about SA rugby?

Burger has no history of foul play....

Thus PdV standing by him is the right thing to do imo.

Defend the player and condemn the action.

You sure about that?

Yes.

Why risk scratching a guys eye out ?!

Look a punch here and a elbow there will always be found because it is not spotted 80% of the time by the ref.

Uuuuh but loosing an eye will draw a tad too much attention to it, and I am sure however dimwitted schalk is he is not stupid enough to think he can hide a bloody finger and and eye-ball in his pockets....

Why not? There you go again being so PC. Have the Lions coaching staff condemned Sheridan's "grope" in any fact, form or fiction? They haven't formed any public opinion on the matter which suggests they have none on the matter other than it's fine.

Is a man losing his eye to gouging any less serious than a man losing his balls to a punch/grope?

Because he is a monkey? He always gets into trouble for this sort of thing. He has no discipline.

So he has been banned once for shouting at a touch judge and once for a high tackle (2 weeks).

Looks like the monkey has pretty good manners in general.

I'll agree with you on that. I recall watching him in the semi finals of the U21 world championship a number of years ago and he was binned at a critical stage of the match. Remember thinking to myself this over zealous clown is going to cost his representative teams more games than he is going to win them...

Having said that if only he could stay out of the headlines he could double his cap count but an 8 week banning could really put pressure on him and his career prospects. Some players might never regain their test status after sitting out for 2 months...

Please show me the facts. 2 banns in his career before this.

One for a high tackle... one for shouting at a touch judge, IIRC

If you are going keep saying this please provide so stats as to his offences (dirty play).
