Is CODEC support upgradable?
With downloadable files the MKV subtitles and codecs can vary and change rather quickly. The H264 support at L3 with various optimisations for
examples may need upgrade every few months, can you do that
with this player?

Thanks

What's with the difficult questions? I honestly have no idea. There are regular firmware releases and an active online community that should be able to answer your questions - e.g. http://www.mpcclub.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewforum&f=175

All the HD content I've thrown at is so far has worked. /touch wood

The Popcorn Hour A-110 is a great multimedia player. In my opinion, better than the mvix and tvix. It simply just has better features than the mvix and although the tvix is pretty good, the popcorn hour comes at a better price. Both Tvix HD M-6500A and Popcorn Hour use the Sigma Design SMP8635 chipset anyway.

For more information on the A-110: http://www.popcornhour.com

I bought the TVIX HD-PVR3300 with a 1TB WD Caviar Black HDD.

I'm really happy with it and it's a lot cheaper than the big brother 6500A, but I'm somewhat disappointed that it can't play H264 and rmvb files.
Just puzzled why they couldn't include these file/codec types.

The PopCorn 110 doesn't have coax digital audio out (only S/PDIF Optical Digital Audio), which I need for the Bose, otherwise that does look like the best bang for the buck.

What about the A-100? It has Coax digital audio out... Uses the same processor as the A-110 aswell. Other than that, the biggest advantage you get on the A-110 is the S-ATA hard drive connection and HDMI 1.3a spec.

I should have followed your advice from the start.

The online shop has agreed to change my TVIX HD-PVR3300 for the Tvix HD M-6500A just paying in the difference - cost me shipping of the new one and the return shipping of the old one. The shop wouldn't refund so it ruled out going for the cheaper Popcorn machine.

Does anyone know of a Streaming Media Player that when you play 16:9 media you can stretch it to fill the screen of a 16:9 TV and not have black bars on the top and bottom?

More pricey, but I have one of these -

http://www.tvixbox.co.za/product_m6500a.php

Works like a charm, good-looking and has a quality feel to it. I previously had a Zioncom unit - it doesn't compare (except for price:p)
I've bought myself the M6500A and I'm also very happy with the product, but would like to know if it's worthwhile getting the tuner module and which tuner model.
How would I use PVR function in SA ? - I have the old 990 model DSTV decoder but will look at getting the latest HD model sometime - I guess that I can only record using the analog composite input with the 990, but are there other options for recording when it comes to the HD decoder?

Can't help with that query - but have seen TVIXIE for the M6500-A?

GUI and interface is pretty important to me and when initially plugging it in, I was slightly disappointed with the interface. However, I was pointed to TVIXIE and things are much better now : movies with piftures, synopsis, cast and even ratings.

I just wish they'd have made it a MEDIA player rather than a VIDEO player. The music and photo's are a joke and I still need my Squeezebox for music.

I'll give the TVIXIE a try.

One thing I miss with changing from the 3300 to the 6500 is the ability to record from the AV input, and the 6500 is unable to display folders and files with mixed English and Korean characters (that part wont bother too many, but it does effect me).

I think it's safe to say that the Popcorn Hour A-110 is the best on the market ATM.
