Mede8er - New Multimedia Player - Mvix SA Launching MKV - H264

http://www.mede8er.com/

This seems very intresting, maybe worth waiting for .......

Seems like the MvixSA guys are launching an MKV - H264 Solution.

Intresting.

Coming from a company who you can trust, this could be the one.

Mede8er looks good but is based on the Realtek chip.

I personally am going to wait for the mpcclub or any other review of it before purchasing it.

Ya i hear you Solman think the MPC review will really make us understand wht this unit is cable of. You mention Realtek like you dont like it, dont you ? You prefer Sigma ?

The price is incredible though see Simplicty has listed it at R 2499.00 and with a 2 year warranty gees I was shocked.

Really loooks good and it is a prodly South African product so supporting SA to.

That must be the first media player designed and engineered in SA, well done to Sanji for that.

What about a HTPC? I've build my HTPC for under R2000 with 500gb Hdd. It plays anything and will always play everything (just install new codecs). It has HDMI,optical and coax digital outputs. Endless plugins and themes. etc... I really cant see why some people would pay R2500+ for these limited-funtion/non upgradeable media players.

I imported a Mvix450HD first and after I found that it can't play .mkv and will never be able to, no matter how many firmware upgrade you do, I promptly sold it and build myself a HTPC. Never looked backed since.:)

Mvix is the most useless but well marketed product thats why they have gone for other lines here, they know it is crap.

Correct me if I'm wrong (I don't know much about HTPCs power usage) , I thought HTPC's use more electricity/kilowatts than a popcorn hour/mvix unit?

What remote do you use? What are your HTPC specs - mobo/CPU/RAM/graphics card? Which case are you using?

I would prefer an HTPC (for the points you mentioned), but not after Eskom's price hikes....:(

It will probably use more power than a Mvix/Popcorn hour but not much. But it can do so much more. It's just a normal pc with TV as a screen. I've got an old Antec HTPC case with an Antec 240w PSU. It will also depend on how many juice sucking components you have. I dont need an optical drive so it basically just have to power the harddrives and motherboard with onboard display (couple of watts). Oh, and a wifi pci card. I also have a WD 500gig, Samsung 1tb and a WD 640gb external connected. I'm using a videomate K100 remote control, was about R200. The rest of the specs is in my sig.

I'm currently running Vista Media Centre with MediaBrowser. Everything looks beauitiful with dvd covers, hi def back drops, actors, movie/series descriptions, first air dates and everything automatically updates with no user input required. Just copy your movies/series over in their seperate folders and mediabrowser does the rest by downloading all meta data automatically. There are also loads of other plugins like weather forecasts/browsers/internet tv/radio/games etc. Heck, I could even play Guitar Hero 3 off the onboard ATI 3200HD. Video is connected to my plasma via HDMI and sound via optical to a Samsung amp. My next upgrade is a decent digital tuner to turn it in to fully fledged PVR.

I have had a iPtime, Compro T1000w and mvix780dvi and the Compro 1 rocked but it was quite expensive. Built a htpc but that was too big. Bought a MED500x from www.mede8er.co.za and it will arive tomorow.

Hey Jack, how about a review of that MED500x when you have had time to play with it a bit.
