I know i would get different views but could the experts advise what is the best value for money printer to buy today.

need a printer for home use: printer/scanner/copier

I'd say Canon or HP. Lexmark and Epson, in my experience, are not as reliable, and have pretty poor support.

(Talking inkets - I don't have experience of laser multifunctionals).

I have a Samsung SCX-4521, its a multifunction, laser printer, scanner, copier, fax. It has both a ADF (automatic document feeder) as well as a flatbed scanner.

I've got the same... Great printer

Please just check the ink prices of the printer you decide on. If your budged allows, go laser. I have a Canon ip4200, great printer but the inks cost me +- R600 each time. Printing costs with laser is so much less.

HP 5610 is a great old dog, very popular Officejet all in one with ADF. They are quite cheap to around R1200. HAvent had any issues with them.

Do you like this ... gonna buy one from my suppliers later. How do you rate it ... and is it economical enough for you?

Go for Canon Pixma MP610 or better for inkjets.

I would be going for the Samsung colour laser MFP, but apparently its very slow ... but the black toner is really cheap ... problem is I need speed more importantly ... and its expensive. So I'm going for 4521.

I purchased a Canon MX 300 4 in 1 printer but what a hassle I have. It does not even scan if my colour ink is emty nor prints in black only without the colour cartgidge. And I have hassle with the USB ports too when wanting to scan. Its just not as good as my older simple Canon inkjet printer. Trouble is I need to go back to my seperate scanner. I wish I would not have given my old scanner away but now I feel I should give the brand new Canon MX 300 away. What a rubbish. They really catch you out with expensive cartridges.

I've got a Canon MP800 ... its been my best printer to date. I gave up buying cheap printers ... all cheap printers are rubbish, regardless of brand. And the investment was worth it ... I've had this printer for like 2 or 3 years. I now bought a Samsung 4521F or whatever the model is for a laser ... seems to be also great ... just don't like the limited room you have to get a paper jam out.

Is there somewhere that compares prices of printing, between the various types of printers (not brands but laser, inkjet etc). I'm upgrading soon from my canon mp150 - and i want cheaper printing, but would like to see average costs per page etc...

Samsung CLP-350N Colour Laser
- Total cost to print on 5% of a page with all colours: R 0.91
-Total cost to print on 5% of a page with black ink: R 0.17

Samsung SCX-4521F Black Laser MFP:
-Total cost to print on 5% of a page with black ink: R 0.28

Epson CX-4300 MFP
-Total cost to print on 5% of a page with all colours: R 1.85
-Total cost to print on 5% of a page with black ink: R 0.47

Epson LX-300+
-Total cost to print on 5% of a page with black ink: R 0.13

I just roughly made this comparison. There are different prices for each printer. This pricing ignores the cost of the printer.

Hey, thanks for that... Pays to get this kinda comparison when you gotta do quite a bit of printing, or you just wanna get your moneys worth.

I have an old Minolta MF2800 fax with standard printer. It is absolutely the best device ever. Does not ever break, and the toner lasts forever. Toner pricing is decent as well, R500 for 6k cartridge @ 5%. This device feels like it can go for another 7 years! The new one's are just as good

i'm also looking at a printer now, but i want something that does it all and is cheap. I'm a JEW!

i looking at the Epson CX-4300 MFP, because it has 3 seperate cartridges, which is more economical.
With the all in one cartridge, you got to replace the whole damn cartridge, when just one of the colors have run out.
Its also on special now at Makro for only R399
And it prints 5760dpi

I just wish it had a ADF, so my second choice is the new Lexmark 5630, includes 4 in one function and card readers on the front, but its a Lexmark and only 4800dpi. And the cartridge is non refillable and those all in one colors thing. I must say the 3 seperate color cartridges make more sense to me

What would you guys do?
