Best printer to buy...

i'm also looking at a printer now, but i want something that does it all and is cheap. I'm a JEW!

i looking at the Epson CX-4300 MFP, because it has 3 seperate cartridges, which is more economical.
With the all in one cartridge, you got to replace the whole damn cartridge, when just one of the colors have run out.
Its also on special now at Makro for only R399
And it prints 5760dpi

I just wish it had a ADF, so my second choice is the new Lexmark 5630, includes 4 in one function and card readers on the front, but its a Lexmark and only 4800dpi. And the cartridge is non refillable and those all in one colors thing. I must say the 3 seperate color cartridges make more sense to me

What would you guys do?

Well us jews like things to be cheaper in total, so rather go for a colour laser and then over time it will work out a lot cheaper because the ink is cheaper

Ever tried to print a nude pic gif file from DOS in a old dot matrix printer back in the eighties???

I just wanted to know if the Lexmark X2650 can refill. Last time the ink got finish and refill it but did not work.
What could be done about it?

Xerox has a new colour Laser out for R1500. The res isn't so bad either at 1200x600.

I was told don't touch Lexmark, but anyway.

Hence why its the cheapest. Your workmates won't print porn and you'll save costs on ink

Ink doesn't last long. If you don't use it, it dries up and off you go to buy some new cartridges. That's how they make most of their money - on the accessories.

I've found over the years that inkjet really sucks your money up, no matter which brand. My dad just bought generic cartridges for our somewhat old Canon iP3000, and the quality is totally off. Problem is that originals cost an arm and a leg. He does quite a lot of printing.

One day I'd be tempted to get him a colour laser all in one, he would find it very useful. Lasers have come down so much in recent years.

If I needed a printer, I'd much rather get a laser.

Ink jets clog up if left idle for long stretches (weeks-months of non-use). Lasers are also cheaper on the long run.

Lasers seem to have TRUE resolutions of 600x600. Many 'optimize' it through software to have 1200x600.

Rarely, some have 1200x1200 TRUE. One or two HP's have that.

I think one of the Xerox ones has 2400x600 (Phaser 6250/B). The more expensive ones have a 'Photo Mode'.

For photo's, in general, the average inkjet produces better results.

Memory is important for printing multiple pages and PDFs. It also needs memory for processing the images.

Don't know about that. Obviusly you will use more black.
What I do know is that they may give you a half-empty toner cartridge to begin with.

They say for the cartridges you get with, is for black 1000 pages (new 1500 pages) and colour 700 pages (1000 new). Which I think isn't that bad?

Just saw on pcmall's site, the imaging unit costs R1890! Dont know if it is for the clp-310, but hell thats much. And it last not very long:

Approx. 24,000 Pages (Mono), 6,000 Pages (Colour)

A very dumb question. On printer specs, where it says how many pages you can print with a cartridge, it says the following:
Cyan 1000pages
Magenta 1000pages
yellow 1000 pages
Black 1000pages

So say I print a lot of colour pages, will I get only 1000 pages out of it, or 3000 (all 3 combined). I know that figures are not spot on, but just to compare printing costs of various printers, I want to calculate it.
