Agreed or you have to phone them, tell them to stop messing around and your line will maybe stay up for a day and have dial-up speed @ best

1mb Line same cost as 4mb+ line
512 lines have been upgraded to 1024 lines. So 1mb now costs what 512 used to cost, i.e. R326.

OUCH! Nearly R800! AND they throttle so heavily in the week you can only do serious downloading on weekends anyway. So basically equivalent to my "semi-capped" account, just more expensive. (Altho I do realise you can't get them anymore). Still, at those prices, may as well go with a 4-10meg high cap, surely?

Uhm, it's been mentioned before - Mweb haven't updated their site as the speed upgrade only happened this weekend. They've always had a 1meg data product, which was aimed at 4meg users who didn't want 4meg uncapped.
With the speed upgrade, 4meg users can now downgrade their line to 1meg, and get a 1meg data product. It's only a matter of time until Mweb updates their site and offers a 1meg line + data bundle.

I'm waiting till Openweb has a special again on their Gold account before upgrading. Atm I’m paying R248 for a Gold 384 account, so hopefully the special will be around R399 (like the 512 is now). And maybe Telkom will also drop the line rental for 512/1024

Openweb have updated their site to include 1024k packages.
They have a 1024k Gold uncapped shaped account for R449, which I think is a pretty good price (considering that 512k is R399) since you should be getting full speed most of the time!

Nope the R326 line rental is separate
It comes out to R775 (R326 + 449) for uncapped 1 Mbps. The theoretical maximum you should be able to download on 1 Mbps is ~270GB, and with a Gold uncapped account you should get maximum speed most of the time. That's 200GB+ per month - a heck of a lot more than you would be able to get on an Mweb uncapped account (which only runs at full speed for about 5-6 hours in the early hours of the morning).
So basically between Mweb (R695 total) and Openweb Gold (R775 total), I would pay the extra R80 and get way more for my money.

Thanks for the breakdown. I think that I will wait for some user feedback on the various 1meg uncapped offers before making the jump myself

R397 is that a joke??? Even more expensive than MWEB and very likely to have the same BS restrictions as all other IS based accounts.

I was on 512 and got upgraded, but with the prices the ISP are asking I'll rather upgrade to a 4 meg line instead
