I topped up my non-roaming 2+1 8ta account and when I logged in I saw 2 more data bundles listed under my account, namely:

Bonus Wi-Fi Data Unlimited Speed
WLAN : 10240 MB
Expires on: Wed Apr 17 2013

and

Bonus Wi-Fi Data 128 kbps
WLAN : 9536743 MB
Expires on: Wed Apr 17 2013

As much as I would love so many gigabytes for free, I highly doubt 8ta is that friendly!

I see that they are WLAN and not GPRS, so I'm just curious if the 8ta rep or anyone else here has any idea as to what these are?

They had WiFi in cabs- perhaps they have more hotspots like AlwaysOn? That much WiFi is awesome! CellC should add some WiFi offloading to be even more awesome!

8ta is approaching restaurants/public places through fastnet.
The perks are nice :)

I should try find one of the WiFi areas and monitor the bandwidth usage. I checked again just now and it's all still there - very odd!

If this is the case then 8ta is seriously making a statement to other mobile operators. If it's true about the free "WI-FI" bandwidth at participating restaurants etc but I am curious if 8ta will sign a partnership with "Always On".

Can you please supply a screenshot.

Just got this SMS as well after topping up:

"You have 10240 MB of full speed Wi-Fi access available which will expire on....."

Now they launch the free WI-FI on recharge X amount but they scrap the PSB promotion.

Very disappointed, even checked on their 8ta (facebook page) and noticed 31st March 2013 is the last day.

They also launched new 8ta/Telkom Mobile(TM) roam only network packages.

Stay less than 2km from my closest wi-fi spot, never used wi-fi before don't have any wi-fi equipment.......it would be appreciated if you guys can assist/help me as to what I require to connect to the wi-fi spot, only have the CellC dongle and my 8ta sim card (with 10GB to be used on wi-fi)

Thanks in advance.

Ok so I also got this message...

So what is required to connect to the wifi hotspot? Is it going to ask password, some id, something?

Just had an issue with wifi hotspot at a mall. Called 180. The guy acknowledged that they could be some issue with authentication of sim cards to access the wifi networks countrywide. Will call me once it is resolved.

Went to Telkom Shop in Tygervalley this morning with my HiSense Android smartphone got the password from the Consultant and wolla connected updated some apps on the smartphone via Playstore then moved outside the Mall into the parking area no connection.
