Bye Bye MWEB

Can't wait for my 130GB WA account to kick in next month :)

Personally I have not had many issues with my Mweb uncapped account, but I am slightly disappointed at how the window period for full speed has been decreasing over time. At first, I could get full speed from 9pm onwards, then 10pm, then 11pm, etc. Right now I only get full speed between 1am and 7am and I'm afraid that it's going to keep decreasing as more people sign up.

I'm not a download whore (average about 30GB/month), but if I download something then I want it asap.

Let us know what the service with your new ISP is like (whoever you choose)

Not a viable strategy; As two of the ISP's you have mentioned are reliant on the highly unstable Internet Solutions (IS) backbone and the other mentioned ISP's bandwidth is heavily shaped - therefore testing with these might yield unexpected results.

I would go with Reuben's suggestion or investigate: http://www.measurementlab.net/

As for MWEB, it seems the novelty has worn off and most understand the pitfalls of uncapped and or shaped internet offerings.

@ NoStiC - Rest assured you are not alone in your frustration. I normally advise those that find themselves in a similar predicament, to stay well clear of any ISP that shape bandwidth, offer uncapped products and or utilise IS' infrastructure and rather opt for a high volume capped account.

This will allow for a pleasant and reliable internet experience.

You resell bandwidth yourself don't you? Good advice.

As for TRLTech, I hope you treat your ISP clients with a bit more privacy than your seedbox clients.

Ofcourse MWEB (as a large corporation/company/ISP) aren't going to endorse illegal activities. Stop being an ******.

I do resell (TRL Tech / Cybersmart / Seacom) bandwidth (at cost and to my clients only); as it is not to my advantage, continually trying to resolve ISP's poor levels of service and or connectivity.

I can vouch for TRL's exceptional good service levels and Cybersmart's delivery of unshaped and issue free bandwidth at a reasonable cost.

Should this situation change, I will inform all as like I have done with iBurst, MWEB, IS and WebAfrica.

Regards

Michael

I have threatened MWEB, even threatened them today (they dared to call here about 10 minutes ago)
They don't care.. I suspect they hold a grudge because I threw my toys out the cot on a previous occasion and phoned some managers at the top.
I don't care.. I am tired of getting crapped on by the boss 'cause the internet doesn't work almost every day.

Which business package are you using then?
Other than today's niggle with ADSL users in general I can't complain about the Uncapped accounts

The only reliable uncapped / semi-shaped package I am aware of is offered by Altech:

The other reliable package I am aware of is standard, plain vanilla capped services from Cybersmart. My ADSL line at home, never ever gave trouble, not in 2 years so far!
Guess which ISP we are going to go with.

I can undertand the OP's point. Downloading a torrent at 5kbs sucks.
The problem is simply that is the service we all signed up for.
I get massive speed increases after midnight on most nights but still I feel cheated.
But my steam updates all work at ful speed so can I really complain?
The real problem is simply is MWEB's R219 384 uncapped service worth it?
Currently I have to say yes because there is nothing better. But with Waccs, Eassy and seacom all coming into their own and telkom looking like it may play a speed-update card soon 384 uncapped may be destine for the history books anyway :D

and telkom looking like it may play a speed-update card soon

Remember - These are the people who say that users don't need uncapped (Whilst the forum is littered with people downloading 200GB+ a month), ignore customer complaints, take forever to do new line requests, and will happily let a user on a 4MB Line download at 50kb/s local.

So - A speed-update card? From Telkom?

I doubt it...

Short answer: NO.

On our business package we enjoy unshaped internet so we can pull torrents (when the line is up). But there are better ISP's out there, for example Cybersmart, who do my home ADSL, on 384k, do not have any restrictions on my traffic.

Ok so I am also very dearly considering dropping Mweb - if my ongoing communication with one of their representatives doesn't end well.
I down 200gb+/month and i do not mind shaping as long as gaming such as WoW and Steam games are alright all day and night.
Atm i feel like im paying for 4mb and getting SEVERELY SHAPED 512kb.
Mweb lost a loyal fan in me and many others in the last few months and it's only a matter of time before they are forced to fix the service.

This is the problem with MWEB:
The upper management doesn't have a clue what is really going on. I've tried, you cannot speak to anyone who is really senior in rank there, i.e. someone above the call centre supervisors and so-called 2nd level support. These people keep all the k@k well hidden from the upper management. The upper management, on the other hand, are very eager to appease the shareholders so they will not spend a cent extra on more infrastructure to cope with rising bandwidth demands and new clients. MWEB has simply gotten too big and is now a lethargic, slow-to-react, uncaring monster, just like Telkom.

Sig material! Too bad I don't feel that way about them...yet :D

Anyone else notice the deathly silence from the installed MWEB reps here today?
