Think that the mods should go through every thread and pick a winner. The system of members nominating threads may not necessarily be optimal as not everyone may have seen every entry.

There are some very good entries that didn't make the final list.

That's a lot of stuff to go through (Threads: 368/Posts: 4,055) - perhaps though the number of threads in the current final, which was limited to ten due to the forum voting system, could be doubled/trebled to include more nominated threads?

And those members who just lurk and never post? I have been here for a few years and only have a few hundred posts but I read a lot of threads on this forum every day.

We learned about some campaigning for votes in our PS4 competition. Some people are not happy about this.

Would you agree that it is fair that the mods vote on the best thread in this comp?

You're opening yourself up to accusations about mod bias again.

I say mods can shortlist the best and winners are picked randomly.

Alternatively, forumites vote for a shortlist and the winners picked randmonly. No vote solicitation allowed...

I'm referring to rpms original call for nominations. That could be reopened so more members could nominate.

There are I'm sure plenty of "troll" thread but deleting them before the nomination process could have been seen as being unfair.

There are also plagiarized threads that violate the competition rules that need to be excluded from the competition.

Moving forward I think that this is the best course of action. Mods having to trawl through thousands of posts just isn't feasible. Randmonly select. Ensure the winner(s) are not clones/trolls. Done...

Also a good solution.

I would add that the winner(s) entry should be checked that it complies with the competition rules, i.e. not a duplication of existing online content etc.

If you dont want people to vote or solicit get some judges. Like most competitions have.

Anyway - I'm probably the qualified to speculate about the competition because I've spend next to no time looking at the various entries but I would assume some people put in more effort than others.

Well then somebody is going to have to go through the content, unfortunately. The nominations process is still a popularity contest, even if we increase the amount of nominations.

If I'm honest, none of the entries are really that informative, to me at least.

I think the judge thing might not be a bad idea.

How about this:

Anyone with a post-count of over 500 can nominate a post/thread for shortlisting (clone accounts sorted). OP cannot do so for his own thread or post. Multiple votes do not count - once it is nominated, additional nominations do not count (vote solicitation sorted). This can take place in a separate thread, and that way it will be clear if someone is just nominating a post/thread to help a buddy out - crowdsource it - let the forumites determine it (transparency and rule abiding). We can report posts that don't cut the muster (lower mod workload rather than trawling through looking for the best - mods can just deal with nominations that do not cut it in terms of comp rules).

Apply the random number generator to the final shortlist. Done.

Sorts out all of the mess, keeps things transparent, lowers mod workload, and is fair to everyone...
