Cancelling Rain

Hi Misanthrope,

There are various reason that customers ar reaching out from General Enquiries to Billing to Network escalations.

Is there anything you require assistance with? Please drop us a DM so we can look into it for you
OK I finally managed to get signal long enough to drop a DM. Now we wait and see.

Just for interest sake these are my speeds over the past 2 days - that is if I do have a signal long enough to do a test

Hi Misantrope,

Thanks for the attachment however we have not received your DM. Please send us the email address linked to your account so we can look into this for you?

I am on the rain R 250 package and also use their branded Franklin router.

Recently I was thinking, as one tends to do when you sit at home and your signal is down, could I request a discount from rain for the periods when I don't have a signal.

Although I am no lawyer the fact that I pay rain and they accept my money means we have a contract. The basis of the contract states that I must pay them R 250/m and in return they will provide me with unlimited data between the hours of 23:00 and 18:00.

Now we all know that if I do not honour the contract and fail to pay rain I will not receive any data. So surely if they cannot provide me with what I pay for I am entitled to claim back a pro rata portion.

Please do not reply with anything along the line of "if you're not happy you can change".

Rain decided to make this offer and I decided to accept based on the conditions of the contract.

If I must send rain a DM everytime I have to reset my router I'll never get time to reset my router.

Besides that I don't think my mental well being can handle another e-mail telling me I must switch off my router, take out my sim, put it back and switch it on again or one telling me to check the settings.

Why don't you just cancel and save us all the whining.

Hi Misanthope,

I think there has been a misunderstanding as we are yet to receive a Direct Message from you to our inbox with your email address. This is required as we will need to look into your account and why your connection is behaving the way it is.

We can only assist once you have shared this information. Please share this so we can assist.

Believe me if I had a viable alternative you wouldn't even have heard of me.

But that's beside the point. There is a contract between rain and myself. This contract says I must pay them R 250 every month and in return they provide me with 19hrs unlimited data.

Why must I accept poor service when I uphold my side of the contract.

Now if you don't have anything positive or witty to add please desist being obtuse.

I just logged a complaint via your dashboard.

Ref no (1417123)

I have cancelled my Rain sim this morning after numerous tickets logged and Rain just responding that the network in my area is fine and has no problems etc... This morning email the last straw " Please note the reason for issues at this address is because there is no coverage at this address that you have specified" Bull****!! as I were using Rain at the exact location and has achieved 80 mbps + on my Samsung S8. Now all of a sudden there is no coverage! Really pathetic to say the least...

So yesterday I logged a complaint with rain and sent a DM. I received an e-mail requesting some info and screenshots which I replied to. I also received a phone call but unfortunately the connection was bad and I could not hear everything.

Since then nothing improved.

Here are some screenshots:

O yes I forgot to add this post was made possible by Vodacom 1Gb for R 25 for 1 day offer.

The first screen shot is my connection to rain and the second is to VodacomScreenshot_20200429-100355_Speedtest.jpgScreenshot_20200429-100355_Speedtest.jpgScreenshot_20200429-100538_Speedtest.jpg

Can someone just confirm if the R 250 package is going the same way as rain's failed attempt at fixed LTE.

Discontinued Fixed LTE
Rain also initially offered a fixed-LTE service via independent Internet Service Providers (ISPs) like Afrihost and WebAfrica but cancelled this due to capacity constraints after its network was overwhelmed with traffic.

It's an absolute disgrace that I have to pay for data from Vodacom just so I can get data from rain I am already paying for.

Thank you

Same guy from yesterday contacted me again. According to him rain is investigating and will get back to me by 13:00.

At least now I have a time frame.

Right now I cannot even do a speed test on fixed LTE uncapped (30Mbps). The speed is too slow to connect. Then eventually it times out. And it is NOT my position or anything else. When the connection is up, it runs at 30 Mbps. But increasingly (I say increasingly because it always was a bug in this service) the PC connects to the router en the router goes on the network but there is NO internet. Or it shows internet but the speed is so low nothing happens in a test or in opening a web page. Other times it is round 2 Mbps or so. Then suddenly it is up at late 20's again. Then you must do what you want to do because nobody knows when it will just suddenly die again. It is totally unreliable.
To show how unreliable it is, I have a backup router with a prepaid Telkom sim in. I am on that right now.
Consider it: Telkom is the backup for the khak Rain service.
Second thing - it seems one cannot contact their support! No email address, no phone number and the complaints form on the website (if you can find it) either just disappears before you can "send" or if you send, your complant seems to disappear somewhere. Rarely, if ever, does anybody come back.
Now my problem is how do I cancel this krap service?
I'll wait till the lockdown hysteria is over and go to the bank and stop any payment to them from the cc. I will have to pay a few hundred rand for that, I suspect, but how else can one do it?
To help us to report accurately on Rain’s network performance, we need data from as many people as possible. Please do a speed test using MyBroadband’s web-based speed test and Android speed test app.
