Hi Guys
My son hasn't been doing to well in his exams and I'm blaming it on mxit. I'd like to activate ACM on his phone:

I enter *111*123# and it asks me to confirm the request by sending "1". When I reply with 1 it responds by saying that operation failed and that I should try again later. I've tried three times in the past two weeks, and it fails every time.

I don't know if it could be related, but the number is an 073 number. It was originally a MTN number which we ported to Vodacom. Oh, and its prepaid.

Any help?

Hi

ACM wont stop mixt , ACM is more for site access.

Regards
VodacomData

i suppose you want to keep in contact with him still I`ll buy him a cheapie that cant do much

I only got my first cellphone when I left school for college. And even that was a crap hand me down from my mother. Boy, how times have changed. Seeing 10 year olds walking around with Iphones hehehe. Guess being a city kid has its advantages over a being a Karoo boy lol

Are you sure about ACM not blocking MXIT?

Vodacom3G said the following:
"On Vodacom, if you turn on ACM (Adult Content Management), it will block chat sites, so many parents do this on the phones they give their youngsters."

Will it only block the mxit website? But still, why does it keep failing?

Mxit is an app, ACM is for restricting website access such as mature adult sites with chat options.

+1

Nokia 1200 springs to mind - extremely basic phone, but reliable and solid.

Nokia 5110 R69.95 @ those Jumbo (?) Africa(?) cash and carry bazaars in Crown Mines/Amalgam. Excellent battery life and virtually indestructible as well as (depending on youngster) trè retro chic!

Adri Why don't you go into his vodacom4me and disable his internet access then he can still use his phone but no internet ie. no mxit.

and also as long as he is underage they should be able to do it over the phone too...

I also need to control access on a youngster's phone and had a look on vodacom4me. I can see how to activate Adult Content Management, but not how to stop internet access completely. Am I missing something? (this phone number is on contract)

I guess i can ask Vodacom to disable data transfer but this no doubt will cripple MMS as well?

Yes, MMS needs GPRS for transmission, so if you were to disable data completeley, then MMS will no longer work.

VD, can you confirm this?

Isnt it possible to disable individual APN's?

Then internet APN can be removed but the MMS APN can remain.

GPRS, EDGE, 3G is communications methods used by the phone to communicate with the tower.

MMS can travel via GPRS/EDGE/3G depending on the type of phone and strength of the signal.

Only way to stop data transfer is to block data transfer for that specific SIM - then only basic phone calls and SMS will work and nothing else.

Or just get a cheapy with no GPRS/EDGE/3G functionality.

It is possible to add an inhibitor for specific APN's : You will need to inhibit the internet and Vlive APN's to prevent internet access on the number.
