Cape Party Q&A

Whats in the Cape belongs to the people of the Cape

That's not true at all and if you aren't aware of this already then you really shouldn't be trying to get into politics. You seem to labour under this false illusion that provincial tax pays for everything, which is just not true at all, far from it.

But that aside, your biggest stumbling block is not the people - it will be the corporates - there is simply no way that you will get the backing of national businesses and you will come up against vehement legal opposition in this respect. Again, while your motives might be pure, your objectives are not feasible and I also believe that you will only garner support from a certain group of voters for the wrong reasons (I'll leave those up to you to figure out, to avoid derailing this into a racial debate ;) )

P.S. @capeparty1: you have more questions to answer...;)

You are a perfect sterotype for your Apartheid style party. You want your "seperate living" :D
So the advocates of all other seccessionist states are examples of Apartheid stereotypes? In fact going by your logic, all countries subscribe to this "Apartheid" belief? Since each country is separate? At no time has the Cape Party ever made this about race, but as usual in S.A. it's always about race and stereotyping...

Well.. I know nothing is going to happen about this.. its a bunch of mostly white okes who want to drink their brandy and coke while discussing how cool it was living under Apartheid.
You can sit and do nothing that's your perogative, but again you're generalising attaching stereotypes to people, a bit contradictory don't you think? Believe it or not there were aspects of Apartheid that were cool and the sooner that people actually remember and admit to this the better. I believe the Cape Party wants the same standard of living for everyone, regardless of race.

Cape Town is South African and belongs to everyone.. not your little "Well ek is van die Kaap" club.

Just to debunk your little theory... I'm not from the Cape have never lived there, however I support the Cape Party. Why? Because it's a little bit of hope for at least a part of South Africa. I happen to think they have a good case for seccession albeit the movement is in it's beginning phase.

How long will it take for you to understand we ARE seceding?? Deal with it. Your attempts to dissuade people here by claiming that you have a monopoly on what's right is ludicrous at the least and simply doesnt matter.

And how ARE you seceding with 0.13% of the Cape's support?

There's a difference between TRYING TO secede and actually seceding.

Ah, you've decided for us then, have you? Seems democracy is not a word you are familiar with. Dictatorships don't sit well with voters of a democracy, "bru"...

Dude, let's not get into semantics here I'm guessing that he means they are going to try to secede. To claim they will fail because they only have such a small percentage of the vote after one election is a little unfair in my opinion, if say in 5 years time the percentage is more or less the same then it would be fair to assume they would fail don't you think?

Ha, you wanna try that line again? Many people here have already made it clear to you that the CP only wanted to use this past election to launch their party, not win the elections. You know this. Why keep going round and round using the 0.13% figure? You could only use it if the CP were trying to win. They werent, but they did achieve their goals: get publicity for the cause, get people talking, (as we are now,) and launch the Party, which they have done very well in that their level of organisation has gone from small to provincial wide, (not counting those in the NC and EC.)

Are you saying then that your from the Cape?

I do business with Cape companies, I visit the Cape fairly often, I have family living in the Cape and I am South African and therefore love the Cape, as it is a part of my country. Your party's actions don't only affect Cape citizens. You need to realise that much first, "bru".

As a South african citizen, I am entitled just as much of a say and opinion as to what goes on in my country - currently, the Cape is a part of my country.

You avoided commenting on the gist of my post though - your attitude is akin to that of a dictator when you make statements such as "...we ARE seceding. DEAL WITH IT". Surely the people should have some say in this matter too?

Nearly all comments posted by Cape-Ind and Cape-Nat hold no water and are completely thumb sucked.
I think it's safe to say that a minority party with no factual backbone and little political knowledge is going to survive for very long. Especially by making some outrageous claims and ridiculous demands.

Maybe the Cape Party has some good beliefs and wants a better future for all, but these two buffoons are clearly doing their party some serious damage.

I totally understand that, how could anyone not, however our argument is that the Cape's people are ready for secession, and if it came down to a referendum, it would be the people of the Cape voting, and not SA, see what i mean? I do understand what your saying though. It does effect everyone.

To claim however that it will negatively affect the ppl of SA, will need alot of convincing.

Why is this news or current affairs? Surely this should be in the Off Topic forum?

And the best reason for allowing independence would be so that we don't have to put up with the Stormers or Province. Oops - is that not a question?

Actually that's rather simple to explain with one question:

Ever been involved in the details of doing cross-border/international business?

Because that's what the repercussions for SA and the Cape will be and just one reason why corporates will not back such a move. The implications for businesses are all negative - there is not a single benefit to any business in SA nor the Cape. It will also have detrimental financial implications for SA as a whole, meaning that it hurts all SA citizens. I also don't see any benefit for citizens of the Cape until you put forth reasonable justification for secession.

This type of issue affects SA on a national basis and will not be decided at a provincial level...

the Cape's people are ready for secession

You sound like Mugabe - who are you to decide for them? You have a political party with a vision, that is all. You do not speak for the Cape's citizens in the least little bit. Please stop that rubbish now.

YOU* are ready for secession. YOU* need to convince the SA citizens why it is in their best interests and your associated plans. It's not up to you to dictate to the people of SA what they want.

*You being the party and its members...

Fair enough.

For the CAPE members - what is your party's position on racial equality?

I ask based off this article; the relevant portion being:

For all thes concerns of Kay’s party for the native population of the Cape, they clearly border on outright intolerance towards the racial other. One of the party’s pamphlets distributed during the election campaign singled out “black migrants” for receiving resources that belong to the local population.

That concern aside, after reading just this thread (and not the others) I have to say that the debate is pretty childish. The main issue is the right to self determination - what constitutes a large enough group that allows them to separate themselves from an even larger group.

There are secessionist movements everywhere: many US States have them, last year Kosovo declared independance and the Scottish National Party is the largest party in Scotland. This debate (at this point) should be about if such a move would be legitimate and whether it would actually benefit people living in the Cape - the specifics are pretty irrelevant.

kilps:

Have you looked on the website?
Yes - and while it might say that the CAPE Party is non-racial, what appears to be an independent source has described CAPE Party promotional material which (in my opinion) incites racial hatred. If that is incorrect that all is well and I have no problem with the party promoting it's vision for the Cape - but until then the article I quoted raises a serious concern.

Perhaps you could address it directly?

Dunno bru, all I can tell you is

a) You'll always find biased reporters with an agenda, and
b) I've personally met alot of them and would not support it as a realistic endeavor if i thought they were racially motivated. They campaign mostly in the coloured areas, (so far,) but do not make any preference and drive it home to us that everyone must work hard to avoid ppl who may be in it for those reasons. The term "Kaaplander" has to do with culture and not race. Ive met people who looked whiter than me, but spoke and grew up in a cloured area and told me they were coloured. Ive met others, very dark in complexion, but who will refer to himself as a coloured. And, ive met ppl who arent sure just what they hell they are. The Cape has a long history of acceptance and relative racial harmony, (look what the previous govt. did to district 6.) I know my ancestors were KhoiSan for sure. Pigment matters little. Culture, however, is precious.
