Cell C Data Potential FIX

WTF...

my data bundle and airtime depleted today.. so my webpages loaded to the cellc recharge page. guess what.

the flippin page loaded like lightning using the 900mhz.. i verified my cell was using the 900mhz spectrum.

I then cleared firefox cache and reloaded the same page and in 2 seconds page is up.. I then accessed the cell c webpage and loaded fully in a few seconds. so i thought to myself, Cellc fixed something.. Loaded a few rands airtime, bought a 50MB data bundle and now the cell c page cannot even load fully. Bombs out.

WTF

Should have taken screen shots.. TRY again tomorrow :)

Yeah, but there isn't a way to set it after you've gotten a LTE carrier update.

switched off hspa+ on my s2. getting decent speeds. now if only we can get the same fix for dongles, currently using a vodafone r205 mifi with a giga 20.

My word...but I am really struggling now. I can hardly use data on my phone . I get text on WhatsApp ... but I can forget about trying to browse the net or sending / receiving a pic/vid on WhatsApp. Have full signal on 3G. Tried on EDGE only mode also ... that is compeltely dead. Phone cant even log into google ... my signal indicator just stays grey and does not turn blue even on EDGE . :-(

I am so relieved I went onto a month to month contract. I think I will have to port back to Vodacom.

So ... ported my number back to Vodacom rather.

Do anyone here know the email address for Cell C customer care? I want to email them and just formaly inform them to make sure they stop billing me. I tried their website ... but when I cick on the the "write to us" link to get the email I get:

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.cellc.co.za.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

Hi Guys

Alot of people are having data problems on the Cell C Network. The problem lies in the spectrum their using, namely the 900mhz spectrum. This spectrum is excellent for indoor use but if you don't have proper data capacity to support then we end up with the problem many of us are having.

Now what i have discovered is my phone or device will choose the best spectrum to use which has best signal, 900mhz or 2100mhz.

On my Samsung Galaxy S2, I found a setting to change which signal i want to use. I set it 2100mhz and WOW the net is back up again. Im able to browse and good speeds. Tested downloading in my area and its around 2Mb speed. Good enough for me.

If you have a Samsung Galaxy phone, try this

1. enter *#0011# on the dial screen
2. Press menu button and select Back
3. Select Phone Control
4. Select Network Control
5. Select Band Selection
6. Select WCDMA Band
7. Choose WCMDA 2100

Exit the service mode by pressing home button and Wait a minute for a new connection to establish or Maybe give a restart.

Your connection will re-establish and you should be surfing with good speeds.

If you have other phones or devices, check on XDA forums for phones services codes and try this.

Note: Reception on the 2100mhz not that great as compared to 900mhz but u are have internet access again.

Thanks to this thread, i managed to find a solution:

Tried this but my S4 could not register on the network while in 2100 mode. is it possible that the tower near me is 900 only?

Most of Cell C towers are 900MHz only.

Tried again, this time at the office.... still will not register my S4 onto the network when in 2100 mode only. As soon as I enable all frequencies, the phone registers onto the network...

Can only assume this area is strictly 900mhz

And here's the opposite problem on cell c...

Data working fine, in cell c coverage, emergency calls only, wtf?

From the other thread on this:

Im trying this fix to no avail. I can barely even use whatsapp in the Westmead, Pinetown area. I spend most of my time at work here so its really frustrating to say the least.

After dialling *#0011# I get into the service menu. However when pressing menu and selecting back nothing happens, it just stays on the first screen.

Ps. I recently installed the latest Galaxy S4 firmware (OTA). 402MB

Any suggestions or advice?

I seem to have the same problem. I'm guessing it's firmware update? Any workaround for this?

how do you change the frequency on a nokia Lumia 520?
