Cell C launches 3GB/year data offering

cell c has a 2gig special at around R150 per gig, this deal is at R133 per gig,no info about top-up or out of bundle rates.....i reserve my judgment

Key question - when will we be seeing the 43mbps data usbs? I want to wait until those are on offer

I could use this for the kids and some other relatives.

Wish VC would offer something like this, but you can dream on if you think that they would ever do this.

Wait...the only good thing i see is the 365days...you pay R400 for 3GB anyways

Indeed.

With voda/mtn a standard data bundle lasts 30 days.

8.ta it lasts 6 months (if I remember correctly)

So this CellC one is a definite winner - you don't need to top up frequently, only need to top up once for a whole year. Think it is worth it - no need to scramble around when out of data bundle.

If the CellC rep can confirm whether or not this can be bolted on existing contract accounts...

This is a STUNNING product for the Tablet and Smartphone market. Well done Cell C!

To the people that say "only 3GB? You gota be kidding me!?", remember that this is not supposed to replace your internet (ADSL, Fibre, etc) but rather to supplement it for mobile use.

But sadly here in SA we use mobile internet as our primary internet. FAIL.
Well said.l Its a brilliant product for low usage scenarios or the month top up but you wont use all those gigs

I was just about to post a thread about getting the "ideal" data package for my ipad2 when i'm away from my wifi @ home/work....then like magic....this news article appears!!

Noob question...what will the max speed be for this sim?

Also will there be a micro sim available for the ipad2?

I must agree, this is a very much a step in the right direction. Undoubtedly this is the best data offering for tablet users (and for that matter smartphone users as well), and perfect that the data lasts you a full year - no worrying about monthly roll-overs or any of that :D

I've spoken to one of the Cell C reps and he assures me that this is either a 3GB SIM offer (so a brand new stand-alone data SIM with all other functionality still enabled) OR via a simple voucher which one could top-up either their existing prepaid SIM card or their current top-up (hybrid) SIM card with. So you can take up this offer as either a brand new purchase, or a simple recharge (the USSD recharge string is: *102*VOUCHERPIN# )for your existing Cell C prepaid or top-up accont.

Cell C do offer micro sims, so using this with an iPad2 (which is UMTS 900 compatible - whooosh) is perfect. For the iPad (1) guys, you could setup a simple WiFi connection at home or use a mobile 3G router for your iPad 3G connection (i think Cell C are currently selling the MyZone router which has up to 6 hours battery life).

Great offer from Cell C overall, and CellC_Rep please correct me if any of the info I've given is incorrect.

I really like this, I may just change my number and can VC altogether, I don't really believe in porting numbers.

This is just perfect for a smartphone.

The max speed will be dependent on the device (hardware) you're using and the area you're in - check the Cell C coverage map on their website.

Yeah no wonder they are offering 3gb for a year, because most the time it is not working.
Very very unhappy with the quality of the 5gb service, absolute waste of money. Paid 3k for a year of 60gb and the service is so up and down that I am really wanting to write it off as a bad idea.

+1

VC cant even compete with cell c's standard data bundles now they get smacked with this! delightful application of karma hey?

fantastic BIS-type service for non-BBs
