Cell C Network Issues: Disconnects, Coverage, Throughput Problems - Report Here

Slow upload and/or slow download and/or EDGE only etc etc

Location: Midwood Avenue, Claremont, 7708, Cape Town
Time of issue: Various times since 1st May
Device (Huawei / ZTE): Huawei E1820
Contract Type (pre- or post-paid): Prepaid
Existing reference numbers from Helpdesk: Initial problem (slow download) was reported to [email protected] on 2nd May, but I have had no acknowledgment and, therefore, no reference number.

www.speedtest.net results (if possible):

Example of slow download: http://speedtest.net/result/1276719904.png

Example of slow upload: http://speedtest.net/result/1300007279.png

Any other information relevant to the problem:

Network speeds (upload and download) vary at times from acceptable to awful.

On 1st May at about 1:30am could only get EDGE connection (this is the first time it has happened to me), and since then, there have been a number of occasions when I have had EDGE only connections. I can use MDMA to force “3G only”, but this should not be necessary. I have also noticed frequent switches between Cellids 40081 and 40391 when I do have a 3G connection (RSSI varies from -67dBm to -83dBm).

Spoke too soon I'm afraid, already had a couple of disconnects and speeds are nowhere:

Nice ping!

EDIT : What if you MDMA to force it to 3G?

I'm getting some the quickest speeds in the last month - peaking occasionally at 10-15kb/sec!

Already set the modem to 3g-only.

My ping has always been good, even when I get no throughput I can mostly still ping websites.

Despite the low ping Skype is unusable

Always slow, constant disconnects every night, never EVER get speeds over 1mb/s. I have paid R3000 for a service that I have never gotten, and am effectively being robbed. Thanks for the false advertising.

Connection but no throuput

Location: Durbanville, Cape Town
Date & Time of Issue: 18 - 05 - 2011 - ongoing
Device Manufacturer & Model ZTE MF190
Contract Type pre-paid

Any other information relevant to the problem:

Since yesterday, the modem connects, but will not connect to any site. Intermittantly I can connect to the main page of cell c's site, but as soon as I try to navigate to any of the other links, it comes back saying that the server did not send any data.

I have, removed and re-installed the modem, but this made no difference :(

Please assist, as it shows that there is data going up and down (via the dashboard) but nothing is changing in the web browser, until it "times out".

Any other information relevant to the problem: Was told the Honewdew Spar tower 21682 would be converted to 3G - was never done. Speeds abysmal - 5kbps etc.

Still waiting.......

I can connect 3G and EDGE, but only load web pages when connected EDGE.
The above speed I get when EDGE connected and when I'm LUCKY!
I reported the problem on 11May and received the Ref No TT1375567.
There has been NO progress OR feedback from Cell C.
With Telkom you register a dispute, with Cell C you just pay up and have to accept it - WTF???!!!!

Hi guys come now man what is wrong with your network. I cant use your data pakages at all since last month and this month is coming to an end. I went today to sign up a new contract with vodacom because i have been logging the fault almost everyday and no one comes out to sort this tower. What more must i do???????????????????????????????????

I have 4 friends staying in the same area also using CellC and we all have the same problem.

Cell C horrible today:

Location: Douglasdale, Gauteng
Time of issue: Ongoing, for the last week at least
Device: Huawei E1820
Contract Type (pre- or post-paid): Prepaid

Your advertising says "Fast enough for any network game" - my pingtest result disagrees... I usually get around 50-60ms ping with a 10ms jitter (B+ line quality) and I have got speeds of up to 11Mbps, but for the last week or so the speed is terrible and the ping has been as high as 900ms - there is no way you can play any network game with this kind of latency. Time to speak to the ASA?

BTW, I have reported the issue through your web site, and no one even bothered to get back to me...

Any other information relevant to the problem: No throughput on either Cellphone nor White Speedstick. Call centre keeps disconnecting. Cannot make calls to anyone, without the call being dropped. 084 155 5555, also disconnects straight after Trevor speaks. Getting really annoyed with this now.

Not entirely sure what the tech's have done to the poor tower but it is completely stuffed. RSSI is now sitting at 97 to 103 and not being able to connect via dongle at all. Busy using phone which I had to set to edge just so I could check my mail. This is completely unacceptable. I've paid my money for what...no service!

@Cell_C - Ref: 1104161565 still haven't had any response from CellC

Any other information relevant to the problem: I purchased a 24GB speedstick for my aunt on 17 May. It worked beautifully in my home and office on 17 and 18 May. Speeds at the office in Sandton at over 5Mbps. Speeds at home in Saxonwold, where I usually only have EDGE, at 2Mbs. I tested the SIM in my old Nokia E71 and got similar speeds at home. So I purchased just the 24GB SIM for myself on 24 May and put it into the Nokia. After a few seconds or minutes I remain connected but have zero throughput. Can't access any sites, not even www.cellc.co.za Need to reconnect to resume service. But it means I can't download anything. Tried the SIM in another phone - same story. Tried on another PC - same story. So I assume it is a network issue?
