Cell C Network Issues: Disconnects, Coverage, Throughput Problems - Report Here

Seems like many people have this issue of connected speedstick with good signal but no throughput. Surely it is a common issue and we could get some response here from Cellc wrt this? Is it tower, is it link to tower or is it the back-haul network???

Isn't that something! But at least Cellc conceded to this and are using it to provide a better service. Doubt MTN and VC would have .......

Voda and MTN would never have been down for 3 weeks in the first place.

Plus they had threads and complaints from the 19 April regarding Randburg - and realised an error about 2 weeks down the line

Is there any progress with the problems in Cape Town? There are numerous threads regarding Claremont, Newlands, Rondebosch since January 2011!!! Should I take my 3G dongle back for a refund this weekend or is there something big on the cards for CellC?

Any other information relevant to the problem: I seem to be connected for a few minutes, sometimes a few hours, then suddenly my connection will hang (lag out if I'm gaming online). Upon checking the modem, the light is no longer solid blue, but flashing, indicating a D/C. However, the Cell C dash seems to think I'm still connected. Clicking the "disconnect" button simply causes the software to hang, and/or crash (I have to close it through Task Manager). As you can see from the speedtest result, my connection is NOT up to par, either! Also, when running speedtests, it occassionally shows that I'm in Cape Town (lol?) or Durban (wtf?!) - could be caused by the completely RANDOM IP's I'm always assigned? Also, I've never experienced D/C's when using my MTN sim in the modem, so it goes without saying that the problem lies with Cell C - again...

I have intermittent connectivity in the Somerset West / Helderberg Region. The line drops for no reason whatsoever. Sad thing is when i JUST got it it was PERFECT. Have had it for about 4 months now. This past month and a bit have been AWFUL.

Any other information relevant to the problem: Connects and stays online but no throughput. Phone shows UMTS and HSPA connection, sending to tower but no response from towers. No throughput, all pages would time out. Some pages will start loading and then time out. Used to get a very good and constant 4Mbps downlink and 1Mbps uplink the last 4 months. Last few days have been horrible.

Any other information relevant to the problem:
Full signal strength, connected but no throughput. Disconnects every few mins, sometimes it refuses to connect at all. Sometimes the modem seems as if it has hung. i.e. blue light on modem remains fixed. Constantly have to disconnect (unplug) and reconnect. (with & without router) . If idle for few minutes, then no throughput again. Same modem tested with vodacom sim works 100% connected for weeks on end. What is going on in the Midrand area?

Hi Cell_C

I am still having issues, even though you phoned me last week I have had no other feedback at all.

Sometimes the modem seems as if it has hung. i.e. blue light on modem remains fixed. Constantly have to disconnect (unplug) and reconnect. (with & without router) . If idle for few minutes, then no throughput again. When the connection works I get speeds of less than 1mbps, uploads of less than 0.2mpbs. Something simple like skype is unusable on the useless service. Last night after I got home at 17:00, I had no throughput until 19:00 after which I had very slow speeds, and the connection stopped working several times.

Just for interest sake, I am recommending to everybody I know to stay away from Cell C, this after initially recommending it to everyone after the great experience just after you started out in Joburg. I have been very patient up to now, but I cannot continue like this.
