Champix (Quit Smoking)

I am now 1 month free from smoking. I stopped cold turkey. No champix, no e-cigs, nothing.

Was the most difficult thing I have ever put myself through. The first week was terrible, but I just kept pushing through. Kept telling myself that the cravings will go away soon. I found ways of distracting myself.

Did you start eating more?

What were these method of distraction?

I smoked for ten years (almost 2 boxes a day towards the end of that stint).

I first tried champix and it was horrible. Made me feel sick as **** and couldn't function.

Went to the Allen Car thing, (R400 if you on discovery) - and haven't smoked since.

The first three weeks were tough, but much easier than I thought they would be.

I now detest the smell of cigarettes, and realise what I put everyone else through for so long.

I got some champix from my son, he used it for three weeks and stopped smoking three months ago. I am too afraid to take them after reading about the potential side-efffects. I have quite several times, once for five years! I am not a heavy smoker, mostly social, i.e. I only smoke when I am in company of smokers or when under stress.
Anyways, it obviously works, maybe I wil try them... maybe

Did you start eating more?

Yes, I did start eating more, I still am eating more since its only been a month. My stomach is HUUUUUGE! well... atleast I think so. Nothing that some excercise cant fix.

I am on my bed munching a can of Pringles (almost finished and only opened 15 minutes ago)...then also have another pack of Lays and a bag of Safari peanuts raisons mix. Not sure what is going on but just wanna eat eat eat. Hope this does not last long.

Champix did not work, they say you just keep smoking while taking it and you will just eventually start smoking less and then stop...
What worked like a charm was getting a e-cigar and 24mg nic. Stops the cravings after the first puff. Am down to 6mg nic now as it becomes to strong and you get by with less and less.

Whoever told you to just keep on smoking was talking out of their ass. You still need to make the concerted decision to stop smoking and follow through with it. Champix will only take the edge of your cravings.

+1

I also stopped cold turkey, 5 years ago now, or thereabouts - although I have smoked once or twice during that time socially, I haven't picked up the habit again - I smoked for about 15 years before that.
I think a lot of it is mental, it wasn't as hard quitting as I though it would be when I was a smoker. The first few days/weeks are hard but you're not sick and shaking and on the verge of death like with other addictive substances - you just feel really anxious and irritable for a few weeks - intensely for the first 3 or 4 days and then less and less on the days following - that was my experience anyway. If you are determined and know what to expect there is no reason not to just stop cold turkey.

I also considered taking Champix when I stopped, but I too read all the horror stories and decided that it was not worth it. I made the decision to stop cold turkey...

What I have not mentioned is that I went to see a hypnotherapist who supposedly hypnotised me into stopping to smoke. I say supposedly because I am not sure if it worked or not since I did not feel hypnotised in anyway.

Needless to say, I still smoked that day (friday) and also smoked on the saturday. However, on the sunday, I stopped completely.

Maybe the hypnotism worked, maybe it didn't. Who knows. All I know is that its been a month and I haven't touched one of those cancer sticks.

Keep it up. I stopped about a year and a half ago but then started again (weekends and evenings) a few months ago. Never smoke at the office anymore, but that wasn't good enough so I have fully quit again now :D Have a friends wedding coming up and going to be an massive party, I feel I may become weak again.

Not all the side effect will happen if you take champix -.-

The vivid dreams were good, the farting not so much. :-) Both side-effects disappeared after a month or so.

I found that champix did not work for me, i bought a mind modifier for just over R8000 very expensive but it helps with all addictions. It also helps patients with depression, helps for meditation and sleep. I also watch movies on it, and slideshows so all and all i am very impressed with my mind modifier. Its basically like glasses, with earpieces, so it sends signals to your brain compared with visualizations to help you quit smoking. 7 Months smoke free already and no cravings so i suppose its the only real thing on the market that works

Not sure if serious...

Well....it is now 5 days basically and smoke free. As I go along I find I am not constantly thinking of getting a ciggie. Specially if I am distracted by something else. Seems this Vice Breaker really does take the edge off. :-) Gonna finish the bottle anyway just to keep me level and when it is finished hope I dont have a nervous breakdown or some kind of psychotic event :-)
