Changing the satellite game

Still kark. I thought you where gonna say Multichoice is changing the satellite game by actually giving customers Multiple-choices as to what they want to watch/afford.

Same old kark!

This is exactly taking the "one license per machine" licensing model made famous by Microsoft to a very personal level. I am sorry if I offend anyone but I think this is utter bullsh1t and yet another means for Multiscrew to extort more money out the paying masses.

The boffins at MultiChoice

LMAO :D :D :D They cannot be called that... what a joke

The new HD-PVR is a step up on the old one, offering 150 hours of standard definition recording instead of the 80 hours on the old one

Ag please man, it is an easy step to upgrade the old one with a bigger hard drive and gain recording time. My colleague at work pioneered the hack. All you need is the bigger drive and Norton Ghost.
cable that allows the decoder to check it's in fact connected to a TV and not, for example, to a PC. Using any other kind of connector will cause the decoder to only transmit standard definition pictures, even if you're watching the HD channel.

Yip to stop you bad bad people from capturing the stream and shareing dem movies on the internetz.

...but I already have games on my decoder :|

I like them... I dun wanna change.

Whatever the bad opinions, it is the best we can get at the mo. Installer on his way to my house right now to integrate an HD-PVR with my existing PVR setup.
Wife is happy that from tonight she can watch the Olympics in HD on a 120" screen :)

No need to get agro about this... Lets just stay calm ;)

So do you have to pay the extra R55 for the XtraView when you run a PVR and a HD-PVR decoder? Or is the HD-PVR subscription the same as normal premium?

If it is, I think people that arent using the HD functions should pay cheaper per month... I mean why should I pay for stuff I dont use? Or is the HD free?

Dont delete my posts! God dammit! I said ppl who are happy with Multichoice's products are also happy that their wives are men!

Yup, and I am happy with the products, so you are insulting me.

SlyFly: No extra cost for the XtraView if you are a PVR subscriber. Just hook in the HD-PVR, get the two PVR's to talk to each other and you are sorted. 3 viewing channels. Not sure how many recording, but think it is at least 2.

I'm not happy, we've got a dual view decoder and with all this fricken "schlepp" of PVR this, Xtraview that, jinks this and jinks that.

Screw multichoice, couldn't they have made it a bit easier for the average guy on the street? It's going to cost near fricken 10K just to get the installation and stuff sorted.

Vegeta: :) No worries..

Teraside: Just pay the R1k odd to an installer to do all the schlep work. Won't cost you anywhere near R10k. It is only a mission if you do it yourself.

What about the hardware? New TV, new PVR, no wait 2 fricken PVR's

And remember, with the other licenses being granted, we will see improvements at multichoice now. They have to improve or lose subscribers to the competition. I have a good feeling that money spent on the DSTV setup will be worth my while later down the line.
Although, right now, yes, they suck. You generally just end up watching the best of whatever cr@p is on.

Okay... Ye. If you have no HD TV yet, then your costs escalate. That is very true.

Makro have a special running on the LG Wall Mounted projector for R2,999. Perhaps get that for your movie watching. It supports HD and the picture quality is brilliant. I have it projecting onto a 120" screen and it feels like a cinema. Very low cost for that kind of setup.

Wow, post deleted...that's a first  they do suck btw.

Anyways, maybe it's just me, but I'm confused out of my skull already, to the point that I become frustrated.

Can't they make it all easier to understand? Buy this, no, do that, no, do that. A fricken 10 page essay needs to be written to just compute it all
