Changing the satellite game

The title "Changing the satellite game" sets up waaaay too many expectations.

They haven't changed the satellite game, they've changed the way dual view works.

Changing the satellite game would be like being able to choose your own channels to make up your own b or something similar.

Or maybe some other new feature that would "change the game".

Sigh.

Talk about hyperbole.

I was actually looking forward to the article after reading the head line.

Tarzan: Got an LG High Definition projector at Makro for R2,999. Picture is EXTREMELY clear.

Room is around 5m * 9m. It is a spare room I have upstairs and used it for my RC helis and stuff (hobby room). I have now converted it to mine and the wife's entertainment room with all the toys and stuff.

:sick:Okay so i have normal single view decoder(1 LNB) with HD LCD at the moment.
What do i need for this crappy HD setup? New Decoder R1999 k kwl.
Do i now need 2 LNB with two cables running to this new HD decoder? Or do i need 4 and a switch box and more kark?

EDIT: I dont need dualview cuz theres nothing worth watching in the first place why would i need 2 tvs playing more kark?
Also I dont need to record anything, i have a DVD recorder if i want to record something. I never do cuz theres never anything worth recording.
So i would like to see the HD picture(cuz i'm curious) I dont wanna record their kark and i dont want more ppl in other rooms to be able to view Multichoice's monochoice and general kark programming

 That most probably...

It will cost you around R1,400 or so to get an installer to come out and upgrade you to dual LNB and install the switcher effort. If you don't use the switcher, then you need 4 LNB's with four cables which is just messy.

So new decoder and installation. Where you find the decoder for R1,999 though? The cheapest I could find was R2,449 at Hi-Fi corp.

Har har har haha...

Its funny seeing you guys all stress about your decoders and wires. Thank God I'm poor! Less stress!

I just watch pirated series and movies. No ads. Nada. At my own time. My own selection. Plus I can "pause live TV" to go take a piss.

Mike Smit : What is this projector that you're talking of for R2999? and is it truly HD?

Think i saw it on Hifi corp's special catalog for R1999 on sale.
This HD decoder has 3 channels, 1 for viewing 2 for recording. Now my mind tells me i need 3 LNB's that run straight into this decoder if i wanna bypass this stupid switch box thing. You only get a 1,2,4 LNB so i'll need a 4

If i dont wanna record anything on those 2 recording channels why cant i just have the 1 LNB for viewing?

BTW i want to DIY it will workout no more than R500 VS R1400(if i can find someone that cheap)
Why pay more when i have two hands a screwdriver and 5minutes:confused:

You can use a single cable SatCR LNB , but that will set you back R800 - R1500 or a quad LNB which is about R600 , and then 4 cables etc . Cant imagine the decoder working with just single LNB cause the EPG is also on a different tuner . So another option is a dual LNB with a 4 way switch . No matter how you look at it its gonna set you back about 1k for installation even if you do it yourself

P.S interesting how they forget to mention that the HD PVR + 1110 combo wont work till about Dec

thx noemfie(sies @ ur nick)
No ways am i upgrading then, its a waste of time/money. When all channels are HD enabled and the feed becomes HD when they show HD content.(And new/more movies) Then i'll spend the money

yeah i'd also like to know. the only projector on their site only has 800x600 res and is 5,5k, maybe he meant R29999 :D

Multichoice once quoted us around R500-R600 to extend our LNB cable (around 20-30m). I went to Pick 'n Pay, bought a regular coaxial TV cable (50m), LNB connectors and walked out the store for less than R100.

Hi-Fi Corp has a special on for R1999 for the decoder and R1000 for an installation voucher.

I sure as hell don't want a R2999 decoder. The it's probably 640x480 and six years old right? :D
You probably missed the last digit at the back (I hope).
I haven't seen many decoders that have HD resolution, and those that I have seen (of preferable quality etc) cost in excess of R20'000.

Will the new HD-PVR output RGB (as opposed to YCbCr) over HDMI? I've only got a DVI input on my plasma.

Sanity

For the sake of confirmation :
I have invested in the new HD PVR and the following is the status quo is currently:
The costs remain as they are for the old dual view PVR (you are essentially getting 3 feeds) ie R55 extra a month
The author has not done his homework however. The 1110 /HD PVR link does not work. Multichoice pulled the plug without telling anyone. They have 'security' concerns over this offering.
Poor buggers like me have not gotten what we were promised!

They have 'security' concerns over this offering

Either they're scared of the hackers or the unit being hacked to retrieve the MPEG stream into a file which can be put onto the p2p networks on the internet
