Changing the satellite game

This is a badly written article with lots of contradictions (e.g. simplified cabling). I think the author will also get confused when he/she reads this article tomorrow ... Personally I won't be buying this HD Pvr nonsense until monochoice gets their act together. I have a feeling the decoder is going to be revamped heavily in the near future. So those who are "investing" their money now to please their wives are going to be sorely disappointed. If I'm wrong then I will be glad to go shopping and hopefully my family will understand... If on the other hand the decoder is not updated and all other issues surrouding it are not addressed, I can only hold my thumps that Telkom Media takes advantage of the situation, else the blockbuster store next door is going to be my hangout place.
 
Finweek is owned by Naspers and so is Multichoice, so I guess it was too much to write a more objective article.

It is the LG wall mounted projecter, and it is near HD. It is 1080i and not 1080p, but the picture is excellent. I play PS3 and XBox360 games on it as well as watch DVD Upscaled. Blu-ray player is on it's way, so will see the HD quality of the movies then.

The HD-PVR is installed now and we are doing some testing. There is a MASSIVE difference in picture quality from the SD channels to the HD channel. I cannot tell you how much better the quality is.
Even though we only have one HD channel at the mo, it is worth it and makes me look forward to future HD channels coming. This is how TV should be.

You can do that now, but who does. I can't think of any particular amazing show that would motivate anyone to go to all the trouble. Most of what you would want is already on the net from more recent sources.
 
I can guarantee to you there will be some flaw that can be exploited in order to get more than one HD signal out of a single HD-PVR. Or not even a flaw. Just some really obvious method of AV-usage.

They will be bringing out a dual view HD PVR in the future but at the mo it is not cost effective. Go to dstv forum on their website, has all the info

Damn you guys can moan and whine. I got my HD PVR installed yesterday and it looks amazing. I have a PS3 so experienced HD before. But the Olympics looks more vibrant and colours seem brighter. If you are a movie and tech junkie like me then it is WELL worth it. I never used to watch much tv for the past year or so bec I played games all the time. Now that I have a pvr I can record all the shows and now the best shows and movies will be in HD which is much better than downloads from net.
 
Its HDMI not HDMT, damnit get your facts straight, hell the acronym in the article even spells out HDMI.

Sick of uninformed articles.
 
I think it's a quality appliance. Two decoders on one sub, what are you all moaning about? It's a much better solution than dualview. An autistic midget from Mongolia could install it. No really.

ok going to buy my hd pvr and my flat neighbor gets his cheapy pvr and links to mine, does he also need to subscribe to monochoice then?
 
I know about that LG projector, and how long ago did you buy it for R2999?

Makro have a special running on the LG Wall Mounted projector for R2,999. Perhaps get that for your movie watching. It supports HD and the picture quality is brilliant. I have it projecting onto a 120" screen and it feels like a cinema. Very low cost for that kind of setup.

Does makro or any other retail store still have this. I have just checked with makro and the product isnt even listed on the site. I would love to get my hands on this thing !

Anyone managed to get any info on this ?

I Believe Mike Smit may have been misled, the only LG projector on Makro's site is a projector for about R5700 which is HD Ready, but only has a native res of 800x600 .. which means in order to view HD content it needs to scale the quality down to 800 x 600 .. perhaps if Mike can provide a model number, we can do a better investigation, but projectors that have native res of 1280x720 or better .. are still VERY expensive...

I would suggest at this stage .. that Mike is watching HD content on an SD device .. making it essentially .. SD

Any PC with an HDMI out or similar can play HD content on your HD TV (check media centre on Google) which can be *cough* downloaded in HD from the net.. so those without PS3 and HD PVR's can also enjoy a little questionable *cough* HD content

Actually missed the olympic opening cermony .. so I promptly downloaded it in High Def ... looks as good as the PVR .. and I can still pause it ;)
