Cheaper 3G Prices - Rep?

The point I am arguing is not whether or not Vodacom is using BT here or not.
Well you can't because no one knows.

My point is that this British-owned company is here to exploit as much monetary value out of it and then bugger off.
It thought the plan was a bit more long term than that? They did buy another 15% from Telkom after all ;)

And we sit back and shut up?
Or worse yet, DEFEND THEM?!?!

By all means have a go, but base them on facts rather than assumptions. So far all that has been put forward is:
  • Vodacom has no maintenance cost on its backhaul - True, but they pay rental which is still a considerable cost.
  • SAIX ADSL reseller bandwidth is cheap and thus Diginet should be too - The fact is Diginet costs an arm and a leg. Thank Telkom.
  • BT is cheap in UK so Vodacom should use them here - No one knows the extent of their network or even if Vodacom and BT have any relationship.
  • MTN and Vodacom charge the same for 3G data - Only fact I can see so far

I struggle to understand why this is so as their business model/user base/installed equipment/international footprint/financial results etc etc is so different - in fact the only conclusion the general public can draw is that it is pricing collusion.

Hi WHeunis.
As JohnMcL7 has said this forum is for Vodafone UK customers.

I can understand your frustration as this situation, as there is quite a difference between the two comparisons.

Unfortunately you would need to ask Vodacom these questions as we really couldn't answer them for you.

Vodacom is under the Vodafone global umbrella, unfortunately they are a separate entity from us and as such we have no direct lines to speak to them.

As we can’t really help you with this query, I'm going to close this thread down.

All the best

So in short he is saying: Vodacom != Vodafone

No morkhans,

Thats hardly what he said.

Vodacom is under the Vodafone global umbrella

He's saying that as Vodafone UK, he has no channels to the global department/division, and therefore cannot help either way.
Nicely taken out of context for your own cause though.

Are you getting paid to defend Vodacom?

So how exactly is quoting the entire response taking things out of context? That is my interpretation of his response because he states Vodacom to be a separate entity. Which I would see as someone operating independently (even if under the umbrella).

Are you getting paid to defend Vodacom?

LOL.

Hi

No price decrease on the cards at the moment but in the foreseeable future yes.

Thanks
VodacomData

It's now 9 months rep, or is the foreseeable future 9 years? Please can you put pressure, this is getting quite ridiculous paying almost R1000 for a mere 5GB.

VodacomData, please can you give us an update on price reductions?

Vodacom HSDPA has gone from being the cheapest internet connection in SA in 2006 to being the most expensive in 2010. Prices have stayed the same for almost 4 years now.

@Shred it's refreshing to see someone using the search feature! ;)

I agree, please give us an update, looking at the prices on home page make me want to puke, my 5gig@R1000 odd rand, looks like consumer rape when compared!

I'm ditching this appalling service as soon as I can get a phone line installed.

Yes, wake up Vodacom!!!

I think it is time that Vodacom cut their prices to zero and give everything away for free. With all the News4U and Vodacom23 spam they send out, and other SMS spam they facilitate, their "service" should be pretty much ad-supported by now.

Well the way to put pressure on them is to move our business elsewhere - if we have other options in the area that we live in.
