Afrihost is a shareholder of ours we still compete and operate independently.

We're probably part of a very select few group that does that.

It is called horizontal integration and most companies in their position would have done the same.

That is one way they can grow the business.

Horizontal integration is a part of it, of course, but realistically, Cool Ideas started from a very small base, and opportunity (we were the first ISP on Vumatel), and grew organically because of our service and technical support and involvement. Our passion is to deliver the best network experience.

We remain independant in the construction and operations of our network, and we run it independantly from Afrihost/Axxess.

It took us a long time to scale our support and network operations, and it also involved me and @PBCool (till today). We are still involved in all aspects of the business, including this forum.

We are happy to welcome Mind The Speed customers to our network, and believe that we can deliver an amazing service to our new family.

Prominent South African ISP sells its customer base

Fibre Internet service provider Mind the Speed has sold its customer base to Cool Ideas for an undisclosed sum. The Internet service provider (ISP) notified users over the weekend that their billing would be transferred over from 1 May 2025.

While Cool Ideas is often more expensive than Mind the Speed, the ISP assured customers that their current pricing and any discounts would remain the same for a year from the date of the switch.

This is the single most disheartening thing I have to deal with this year yet again. And then you have the WISPA and WAPA calling for more open access but bigger eats big companies and the pool gets smaller and smaller. Don't actually like it, but sadly I don't have that sort of money to counter that undisclosed sum. Iconnect did the exact same thing. Excellent product sold it off to the bigger fish only after 4 years did they realise their fatal mistake, incompetent CEO

Is this forever or for the next year as per the notice from MTS? (not factoring in when Vat does increase)

It is for the next 12 months, as mentioned we dont have full control of the product and so its impossible to guarantee anything for forever.
 
I read earlier that Cool Ideas will be keeping the MTS address pool. Great, but will our public ip's remain the same?I ask because I have remote services that run on the ip allocated by MTS and have worked flawlessly for the past 5 years.

Yeap that is the plan, we will be doing so to the best of our ability.

It just depends on how the blocks have been split up across the different FNOs and regions.

Secondly thank you, Cool ideas for taking over, however I am not sticking around for this again! So lets say you will not see me for a year! Thanks but NO thanks

I currently pay for a static IP from MTS.
Will I be able to keep that IP address?
If not, will I be able to get another static IP address from Cool Ideas?

Yes we currently do still offer static IP's for all FTTH products except on Vuma Reach and LTE

I consider a public IP a requirement for an "internet connection" - NAT is not a proper connection. "Internet access" maybe....
