Cool Ideas Fibre ISP - Feedback

I'm throwing in the towel. Congratulations, my spirit has been broken. Have a different support tech on my ticket asking me to do the exact same things the previous tech asked IN THE SAME TICKET.

Given it has been a year of nothing but issues from pathetic upload speeds and pathetic reasons for those speeds, to my current situation where my net is basically unusable, I'm moving on from Cool Ideas to someone else, probably WIRUlink. I almost regret moving on from Telkom, despite all of Telkom's nonsense at least the issues were resolved at the end of the day.

Its never cool ideas at fault. Its always the fibre infrastructure.

Oh and its alwasy wifi's fault

Sorry you having problems, my experience has so far been very good; a couple of "glips" but generally with 5 users no problems with 100/100 on CISP on Octotel infrastructure in CT.

Locally CISP is fine getting 200/200 from most CPT servers and 120-150/90 to JHB but international is a different story did a twitch.tv upload test none passed 2Mbps :( can't be congestion as the Octotel network went live like 4 days ago and not everyone is spliced on as of yet still awaiting feedback on my ticket as i am sure CISP will be able to provider greater insight on what could be causing it and how to resolve it
 
Yes International sucks most of the time, but as mentioned above CISP is always full with excuses and blame others, if not Fibre infrastructure, then international connection, then clients wifi etc... but never their fault or at least to try and improve. I will see on the 13th Vumatel is upgrading their network, if no improvement I guess I will have to say bye to CISP as I am tired of the continiously bad service.

And most people that are saying good things about CISP here are probably just doing a local speed test which usually shows good conection or youtube videos which are localy cached, but havent checked or tried any international services.

For example now since 7pm my connection sucks, I barely get 10mbps download to international on my 200mbps line. Oh its probably the rain, or Vumatels crap fibre, or my stupid R 5000 network infrastructure.

Has anyone tried to downgrade? Downgrading from 100Mb to 20Mb seems to cost R900....

I don't understand how that is calculated.
 
I get decent speeds international, but it really depends on the server:

Thats why I posted my international speedtests, to show my upload is much better than yours. There is definitely something wrong with your line, whether you want to admit it or not, or whether you want to blame CISP or not.
 
How can it be the "line" though when i get just 1 minute after those test 190/100 in CPT?

I'm asking this because then your local upload should also be close to 200, no?

I don't know what others get, and I'm not on Cool Ideas, but my 200/20 gives me exactlty that.

Maybe other guys can show their upload speeds locally?

Minor packet loss. You wont notice it on short distances like within SA. But as soon as you do international, the packet loss starts to affect your throughput.

Hmm ok and how would i get my line provider to correct this and get it fixed? if possible i assume it was a bad splice?

That you need to ask the fibre provider techs unfortunately. I havent worked on those devices directly, but I would assume the interface stats would show packet drops or buffer underuns or something.

Cool thanks for the help will have them check it out, the splice to the live network was done during the week when it was near 40c so wouldn't be surprised if it messed the splice up somehow as it was done under 10 minutes and as i understand it the splice needs to be done cleanly and wiped off prior to being spliced and such or alteast that is how it was done when my ONT was installed a month ago
