Intel(R) 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection network card in Laptop , direct connected to ONT (pppoe connection )

Can say I see the same speed varies big time from about a 1mbps to 5mbos max but never my full line speed

I actually just came here to ask this question. When I do an Ookla speedtest, when I use local servers near CT I get an average of 1ms/210/190.

Then using Ookla's furthest available servers, which appears to be two in Port Elizabeth for some reason, with MTN and Vodacom, the results are far more dismal. As in:

Vodacom PE - 29ms/40/89

MTN PE - 22ms/80/114

So, am I paying a for a 200/200 connection that can only show these speeds within CT geographical area? [MENTION=394133]PBCool[/MENTION].

It's not as simple as that really, as your ISP we need to get your bandwidth to the handover to the respective next ISP at the "closest" peering / exchange point, in Cape Town's case it's NAP or CINX.

Anything beyond that is up to the other network, so not something we can really control.

Is it only PE you are seeing this to?

Ookla is only giving me PE as furthest. Other than that, the next furthest is Worcester as far as I can see.

PE is not international....

Which does make me think - why is ookla only giving me this?
 
Could be capacity issues at the remote server or its network.
Do a test to Vodafone in London.

Yeap so back to it would be up to those networks to manage the bandwidth to PE and those servers on their networks.

I know Port Elizabeth isn't international.

I know you know that - my question was sort of based on if that is the furthest out I can get, what are international speeds like.

How do we get genuine speed tests is my ultimate question. Bouncing around inner Western Cape is not warming my innards as to true speed.
