Yeap of course.@PBCool Our area (Vumatel) should go live in the next week or so. I have already received the CISP TP-Link Router. Can I use my own router instead?
Can anyone else in cape town please post their trace to www.twitch.tv I want to compare it to mine.
You shouldnt have access to the CPE, so I suspect the factory reset has de-provisioned the service. Let me reach out and see what I can do.
Do you have a router plugged in and setup?Hey @PBCool, will it help if I contact the tech. guys at SADV and ask if they can push down the settings to my CPE again somehow?
Do you have a router plugged in and setup?
I'm confused, how did you test it before? Remember you can't use the ONT as a router.
Hi PBCool and members
Vumatel are busy trenching my road, this started today (hoooooooray). What I wanted to ask PBCool is how I go about ordering a fibre line through Cool Ideas, I am looking for the 50/5 mb package. I tried to sign up but it would not let me select my area. Do I have to wait until Vuma a completely finished. I did do an pre-order on the Vumatel website as well.
Please plug in your router with the PPP provided and let us know, beyond that we can escalate? Please remove the ONT from this discussionI never really tested it. Back then Cool Ideas haven't activated my account yet.
What I'm saying is, I need the service light to be on again and so far it hasn't been since I reset the CPE last week. I just need whatever SADV did on their side (to lock down and activate the CPE) to be done again .. then I can finally test it with my CISP account details
No known issues, iperf tests would be the next step to take to Evotel. Do you have the steps? It seems the west side of the network suffers often. Is there a problem? Youtube buffering on my 50 meg line. Evotel/North Riding. International Speedtests very poor.

Great glad to hear you are online.Whooohoo! Got it working this morning (with hangover and everything). Thanks for the help @PBCool but seems I didn't actually need help
Learned a lot in the process so I think I finally know how this whole Fibre provider, CPE & ISP thing now work.
In short (based on MY setup, can't comment on other providers with other devices etc.):
So this is all purely speculation on my side so don't nuke me if I get it wrong...
The so called CPE "activation" that the Fibre providers (SADV in this case) does physically to the device (my Calix 813G-2 in this case) doesn't actually do anything important even though it seems that way. It's just a batch of post setup commands send to the device to lock it down and prevent the customer from being confused (by disabling it's wifi) or messing with it and also switches on the service light to indicate they know who the MAC address etc. belongs to and they can see you on the network. So most of the magic is happening on their side.
The "service" light that everyone always mentions needs to be on is in fact just a dumb light that's locally or remotely controlled on the unit. In fact, you could probably SSH into the device and switch the light on or off yourself if you google the commands for it or related routers. I think the idea is for the providers to have a way of indicating whether everything is fine on their side, and possibly also switch it off remotely if they're planning maintenance on the network etc. (although, I doubt any provider actually bothers with that).
Now, if you reset the CPE device then all the default settings return (wifi on, service light off etc.) but that doesn't mean the device cannot connect anymore, you're still good to go on the fiber network IF they've "activated" your device previously, if everything is still fine on the fiber provider side and your ISP is activated and linked to the device then you're good to go... with or without the service light.
