@PBCool can you please advise if Cool Ideas will be offering faster D/L and U/L speeds (faster than 100Mb/s in both directions) on SADV at some point in the near future? SADV have trenched and laid fibre in my suburb. Thanks.

I've complained quite a bit on this forum, but my frustration is not aimed at CISP necessarily. My problem is I don't know where the issue lies that I'm experiencing, and neither CISP nor OS ( in my case ) sees an issue on their end. I have checked ALL my own equipment, and see no issue there either. So I'm at a loss.

My issues only happens from about 7PM till 10PM - maybe 11PM tops. But usually after 10PM things return to normal ( see my speedtest results posted a few posts back here : https://mybroadband.co.za/forum/threads/cool-ideas-fibre-isp-feedback.793061/post-22470890)

All signs lead to me believe that its congestion - because that's all that can explain my speeds dying between 7 and 10, but OS assures me that my exchange is definitely not congested - so I'm left not knowing where the issue lies.

I'm going to request a Telkom test account again ( they are only valid for 24 hrs ), and then if i still have issues tonight - punch that into my router and see what happens. I tried my Afrihost free 1GB account - but it doesnt work on fibre it seems.

Probably find when they test, its not during congestion time ie( 8-5pm) as remember that's home time for them; to congest your line

Hoping someone can help me. I've given up on calling Cool Ideas for help as I just get ticket for ticket (Honestly lost count how many).

I seem to always have packet loss, no matter the time of day. Was playing CSGO at 2 AM Saturday and had packet spikes from 0 - 25%. I'm sure everyone can agree that's a bit much.

What tool/s can I use to check my packet loss on my network? Almost like a continuous ping type of setup? Would appreciate any help.

If you are in cpt then there was/is an intermittent issue where the routes to joburg are switching back and forth and this causes packetloss. This issue happens occasionally on cisp for some reason, also affects discord.

Thank you for the info @Loppas !
I thought my discord was just broken, so happy it's not just me.

Are you aware of any way to test this over time so I can send them the results and they can maybe look at a fix?

Another one here with Openserve issues in the evening. Based in CPT, connection between 19:00-23:00 is terrible. Slow speeds and packet loss.

Hey guys. So I got my PPPoe details.

Put in my username and password but it has been trying to connect for about 20mins now :cautious:

Hi PBCool - didn't see anything on the network status page about Weltevredenpark so I created #COOL-20181119-176079.

The ONT lost connectivity (blue light went off so rebooted). It took awhile to settle back but did eventually except no interwebs. I'm not getting an IP address from the ONT anymore from what I can see on my router's config page.

Thanks.

I hope all of these issues can be rectified, because I am waiting to place the order for Fibre, and this is not making me feel confident of cancelling my LTE uncapped for problems again...

I am rather disappointed at the service received from CISP. I logged a call yesterday for no internet access and just received a response to my ticket which advises as follows:
Monday, November 19, 2018
Vumatel have advised of a scheduled maintenance to take place in the following surburbs on the following dates and times:

Suburbs affected:
Bromhof
Bryandale
Bryanston South
Bryanston East
Bryanston West
Gallomanor
Hurlingham
Jukskeipark
Norscot
Northwold
Olivedale
Paulshof
Randpark Ridge
Sundowner
Wendywood
Woodmead

Start date and time: 19/11/2018 @ 23:00

End date and time: 20/11/2018 @ 06:00

Reisdents will not have connectivity during this time.

As can be seen, this is totally unrelated to the downtime of yesterday and besides, I do not reside in any of the areas mentioned.
Rather frustrated as I signed up with them based on the positive feedback and ratings!!

Hi do you have this ticket number for me?

So Guys ( for those on Openserve that also have issues with speeds between 7 and 10 pm (ish)...)

Openserve gave me another 24 hr test account to try this evening.

I shall be conducting a speedtest or two on CISP & Openserve just prior to 7PM and record the result. This will be to two servers :

1. rain ( Western Cape ) - this seems to give me full speed during normal hours
2. Spitfire Networks Vox Telecom - London - speeds usually as per no 1 - but for international

I shall then interchange CISP and Openserve credentials in my router to swap between ISP's and record resultant outputs at intervals between 7 and 10

I shall then perform one last test just after 10PM with both accounts, and once again record the resultant output, after which I shall collate all resultant outputs and provide my findings for you to look at and share your thoughts.

Anyone on Openserve that wish to join me in testing - you are most welcome.

Cheers

Depending on how dedicated you are I'd suggest throwing in an offpeak time (to have a baseline test to compare everything to) and doing it at 8pm as well as 10pm. 8pm is usually like a toggle switch for issues to kick in.

Yep - I'll do it at 6pm forgot to mention it.

EDIT: In fact I took a baseline now, and here are the results as reference on Openserve 100/50 :

I took the best out of 3 attempts for each account because we know its not the same on each try. I also decided to use Vox instead of Spitfire for the international test because Spitfire seems slower today on both accounts :

As a matter of interest - I've seen 95% of complaints from OS and/or Vumatel. Is anyone on Octotel having issues?

Theres a program called smokeping which works quite well for compiling this info over time and also pingplotter (but you need to pay for the full version to store long term data on pingplotter). Fortunately, someone on this forum has these tests constantly running over a cisp connection and you can check here:

https://netmon.heaven.za.net/smokeping/smokeping.cgi?target=CISP.CISP-Vumatel-webserver

Looking at this graph, the ping issues to joburg happened on friday and saturday.

@PBCool

Can you please look into this issue. Its been going on for a while now where occasionally the route taken to joburg from cpt seemingly switches between the normal one and a higher latency one which causes packetloss.

Baseline :

Local test to rain (western cape) run once for each account . International test to London ( Vox ) - best test out of 3 tests shown below:

Test just before 7PM:

I have decided to stop testing here, as tonight everything seems pretty much normal. I will just see similar results up until 10PM and beyond. I think that upload could be better on international.

So...there you have it - now that I wanted to do a decent comparison - it seems that everything is behaving itself tonight..

Just wish this will last - but who knows.....
