Hi Tranq, sorry. Yes, netstream have deployed a test CPE in order to "simulate" the issue. I haven't been tracking the Whatsapp conversation closely but there is some movement. Will let you know if I have info.
Thanks I'd appreciate it, glad that there is finally something happening. Hopefully it won't take another 3 months before further progress is made.

Any time from now (tm) ;)

We are doing some work with a new transit provider in the UK (Cogent) in order to help us get around HE's IPV6 tunneling latency issues, and some core switch work at the same time. We should be back up by the weekend if all goes well.

Telkom IPC upgrades come first though ....
Very excited about this! Can't wait to turn my IPv6 back on again, which worked 100% fine when I was on ADSL.

We don't do IPV6 natively for clients yet, and Vumatel doesn't support IPV6 on their trenched network yet.

However, lots of people used the Hurricane Electric tunnel broker service in Teraco, but unfortunately due to the fact that we were a HE transit client, and a peer of theirs at Teraco, all the ipv6 tunneled traffic returned via the UK from their Joburg tunnel broker.

Not a significant benefit for clients in general, but the move to IPv6 is a requirement for any ISP's future growth as IPV4 is practically depleted.

Are there any benefits? Will this work on all fibre networks?
Will work on all networks. The only benefit it adds is access to ipv6 only networks. For now it's more network geeks that get excited about it, but it is the future of the internet eventually.

Great to see cisp took it as a consideration.

Vumatel had exact same congestion/DDOS/whatever we want to call it issue on network right after power came back on. Took 3hrs to stabilize and then the traffic started working.

I dont think this issue is going away anytime soon if at all so anyone on Vumatel be prepared to have 3hrs+ of downtime after any loadshedding is over.

No load shedding this afternoon / evening for me, but the net has just died? Fibre is synced and I have an IP but there is no throughput. Anyone else?

I got a response this morning on the slow international and latency spikes being due to load shedding and affecting the "ITC infrastructure ". That this will continue until load shedding settles down.

I am on openserve and I noticed that my connectivity issues and semaphore who as far as I can tell from the post history is not on openserve had our issues resolved at the same time.

Is this load shedding affecting internet a CISP thing or a every ISP thing ? If load shedding is going to cause bad internet every night its really going to be a problem.

Just got frogfoot install, swapped from OpenServe 100/50 + Vox 300GB.
Brother was streaming.

PPPoE system, so no DHCP storm worry like Vumatel, lol.
Install people were about 45 minutes as used same ducting and stuff as OpenServe.

Calling in to active was slightly annoying as I called 16h40, dialled 1 as wanted the "continue activation" thing, since didn't know whether 1 or 2, the lady there after listening to my request for a second said she'd put me on hold for a moment while processing my request, then proceeded to actually put me through to I think 2 where I was put in a queue for ~30 minutes, so I missed your activation people. He was nice though, opened a ticket, and about 3 minutes later I got my PPPoE details emailed to me.

Besides that call waiting, it was a pretty nice install.

EDIT:
International is a bit low though, was getting around 70 on openserve + vox, can actually plug the other thing back in to show...
Assuming there is a problem there? Latency is good though.

This is the part no one from Vumatel could/would give answers to.

There is probably loadshedding higher up the network chain you are on where routers are out due to loadshedding not even occurring in your area. The Vumatel design is more and more looking like a really crap design the more evidence I am collecting relating to recovery during/after loadshedding.

Just got this sms.

Vumatel is aware of the ongoing delay in the restoration of services post load-shedding and we would like to apologise for the inconvenience. We made some changes to our network in CT today to alleviate some of the impact and will monitor this closely. We are focused on reducing the impact of this issue and will continue to make changes to the network where possible until we see better results in the restoration of internet services post load-shedding.

Yep we shall see. I think they are slowly attempting to bring forth the truth about the network issues experienced since Monday. They went from "We have backup power on network, any issue is just at client side" to "We have network issues that we are resolving".

At least it is a step in right direction in hopes this becomes a non issue shortly.

Hi guys...

Something is not well with my Fiber connection.. This started when the load shedding started.

But now it got very bad.

Please see below screenshot where you will see loads of jitter and packet loss if I traceroute www.bbc.co.uk

bbc.co.uk.jpg

I can also not hold my connection to a JHB hosted Teamspeak server and my packet loss is 30 odd % and disconnecting all the time.

ts.jpg

So, currently playing games online is almost impossible and my connection drops.

I'm the Northern Subs in Uitzicht.

I think there is a hardware issue somewhere.

Yeah, internet is dead again, and my area is not on load-shedding atm.
Load-shedding is only starting at 20H00.
So somethings further up the tree is now dead again.
