I'm seeing lots of dropped packages in my router's firewall log, coming from Cool Ideas and Vodacom Nigeria which I share the same IP (155.93.XXX.XXX) block.

For example:
Code:
SRC=155.93.195.43 DST=155.93.reda.cted <1>LEN=40 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=247 ID=8559 DF PROTO=TCP <1>SPT=27908 DPT=7547 SEQ=1505156917 ACK=0 WINDOW=14600 RES=0x00 SYN URGP=0
SRC=155.93.109.250 DST=155.93.reda.cted <1>LEN=52 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=112 ID=5348 DF PROTO=TCP <1>SPT=39898 DPT=445 SEQ=3528341535 ACK=0 WINDOW=8192 RES=0x00 SYN URGP=0 OPT (020405B40103030801010402)

SRC=155.93.234.121 DST=155.93.reda.cted <1>LEN=44 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=246 ID=29710 DF PROTO=TCP <1>SPT=26830 DPT=23 SEQ=4189724199 ACK=0 WINDOW=14600 RES=0x00 SYN URGP=0 OPT (020405B4)

I'm not worried about those packages since they're dropped but interested in how they're supposed to reach my WAN IP.

Is this something worth reporting or am I just noobing around here?

IPC changes are done for JHB and CPT as of this morning FYI.
@PBCool - Hi Paul. Thanks for this info. So what exactly was done ( do you know ? ), and how can we check if there is any sort of improvement in speed/latency ?

In other words - how does it benefit us in a practical sense ?

Thanks

IPC historically is only available in 1G interfaces at major datacentres, it is now available as 1/10/100G ports as of last month. We applied for an upgrade in October which was only recently delivered but at least it gives us room on the interface for expansion. Basically makes upgrades much easier and faster.

Better performance at peak times is the net result of the changes.

I think he meant, when will kzn traffic go through durban IPC again. Though it's a guess only based on you saying kzn is getting back hauled to jhb, unleas I misunderstood that.
We've never had IPC in KZN, this is only going live in a few days.

The upgrade has fixed the latency issue, but unfortunately hasn't fixed twitch for me.

@PBCool What info/tests can I provide to help sort this out?

Since cool ideas support cannot seem to read my queries to completion, could someone please explain to my why:

I have had telkom/openserve fibre for years.
I have a CPE/OTN/modem which is synced/green.

Why does openserve need to come to my premises to do anything?

I expected that once my telkom was cancelled, they would just “switch” who bills me.
ETA of 2/3weeks (maybe quicker) to switch ISP. That is madness

Just normal firewall noise. Welcome to the internet! :)

If Telkom retail was your previous ISP they replace your ONT. Unfortunately that is by design from Telkom/Openserve.
