Cool Ideas Fixed 5G/4G Feedback Thread

Hi Cool Ideas.

I see that I am unable to access https://clientzone.afrihost.com/en/ , I have a hosted site there and am unable to login when I am on my Vodacom 5G service. This works fine when using other providers. The same happens when trying to access Air Mobile for managing my simcard. Could you maybe check if something is getting blocked?
Hi there, thank you for reaching out. This is a known issue since around Nov/Dec last year, we are still engaging with Vodacom to figure out a way forward for the issue. A meeting will also be set up soon to troubleshoot this issue with Afrihost and Vodacom.

Due to the recent Maintenances happening on Vodacoms network, this troubleshooting meeting has been delayed a few times, as any progress could undo the changes we/they make.

I will post an update here once there is some progress on this,, as this only affects our APN. No ETR unfortunately.

Hey @CoolEscalator I have a question about the 5G service. I have a Nokia FastMile 5G Receiver; it's an outdoor 5G router I want to install outside for better signal. When I install the SIM, the device picks up no signal. I checked the APN, Telkom & MTN work fine.

I received a call this morning that this 5G router is not supported? Is this true?

HI there, Thank you for reaching out. From what I can see on Vodacoms Approved Router List, for Nokia, only the FastMile Gateway 3.2 would be supported, as I don't see the 5G14-B on the list

Hi, at 9:39am my router light went red for a few minutes and I lost connection. It came back on but it looks like it switched to 3G again:

This is the list of networks available using manual search. I tried switching to the first one (Vodacom 4G) but got no connection. Switched it back to auto and now I'm on 5G again.

It would be nice if the router had an option for "5G only" or "4G/5G only". When it switches to 3G it's just too slow to be usable with pings all over the place.

HI there, so sorry for the delayed response, I missed this message.
Unfortunately the ZTE G5TS doesn't have a 3G option to de-select, or a 5G-Only Option.

However is everything good with the connection at the moment?

everything good with the connection now again?

Yeah everything seems fine since yesterday morning. It hasn't switched to 3G again.

HI there @feesbees @susefan
Trust you are wel
We have finally been able to set up a meeting for the 30th to troubleshoot this issue with Vodacom and Afrihost.
Will provide feedback accordingly

I ordered this service. Took 20 hours from ordering to having router in my hand (Joburg->Cape Town).

Anybody with tips to get better upload?
Tested at 5 am and I can't get more than 30 Mbit/sec. I mean it's much better than Mohammad's, but I've seen some tests in this thread giving 60 Mbit/sec.
P.S. I mostly use testmy.net since you can do upload only speed tests. Now and then I use speedtest.net to confirm, but I don't want to waste/wait for bandwidth to complete on the download test first.

On Vodacom 5G?

On Vodacom 5G?
Yep.
I have now also tried the Vodacom sim in my ZTE MC801A because I can set CA on that router, but cannot get more than 30 Mbit/sec. It looks like the fastest upload is on 5G, because if I set 4G only then the upload is trickling at around 10 Mbit/sec, no matter what bands I include/exclude.
(Keeping my Telkom LTE as a backup - getting 50 Mbit/sec upload there, but the download is slow, around 20 Mbit/sec)

Think it's just tower dependent. I'm usually around 600Mbps download and 50-70Mbps upload. Have the package for just over a month now.

I'm just on the outskirts of Sandton CBD (on the Morningside side) so I probably got good signal because of that.

My signal stats.

The SINR on 5G is excellent, but, the RSSI seems on the low side?
I get the same speeds on the ZTE G5TS and MC801A. Both routers have two external antenna inputs.
Do you think, @cavedog , an antenna will help with upload?
Would the router still do 2CA on LTE and be able to combine with 5G? I guess I don't need 2CA on LTE if the upload is happening on the 5G band. I won't mind sacrificing a bit on the download to gain more upload.
