Hello Cell_C,

Would you mind commenting on my question:

Question about the coverage map legend: There are two types of areas:

1. "medium/light pink" area is labelled "Cell C and National Roaming Coverage"
2. dark red area shows "HSPA+ 900/2100"

Is data services at all available in the areas described in #1 - even if it's only GRPS/EDGE?

Thanks.

Wooooosh in Sunninghill?

Does anyone know how good the connection is in this part of Jo'burg?

I'm currently on Vodacom, but it's not great and seriously considering change.

Would also like to hear from those in Durban on Cell C? I'm between the two places a lot.

Thanks

Anyone using the service in Sunnighill?

I am considering subscribing, but unsure what the coverage is like in Sunninghill. I currently have Vodacom. but only works in certain areas of the house.

Can someone please help?

There are a number of towers around so signal isn't a problem. I moved from Vodacom to MTN as they were unable to sort their tower issues out (6 months of emails back and forth, eventually gave up on their terrible service).
Anyway, towers are located at:
1. Corner of Tana and Rivonia
2. Corner of Navaisha and Leeukop
3. At the Spar complex off Maxwell

No 2 is currently giving me problems (http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/327614-Sunninghill-tower-problems) but service in the area is generally good

Anyone using CellC in Clearwater Estate?

It looks like I have coverage, but I just wanna know if any of you dudes connect successfully from Clearwater.

Thanks

CellC performance in George?

Is there anyone here with experience of CellC Whooosh performance in George area, specifically east of George near the N2? A friend of mine lives in that area, and would like to know what the performance is likely to be before purchasing the speedstick. Thanks. :)

Best bet is to get your friend to borrow a stick from someone/somewhere, take it to his house, and test it out. Also check the online Cell C coverage map to see if he is covered at all, but don't trust the coverage map 100%, instead use it as a guide. Some areas might not have good coverage due to hilly/mountainous terrain, large buildings/obstructions, etc..

If the coverage on the map is patchy, don't look for the one red dot that happens to be on top of his house. It most likely means very poort coverage. Sometimes the coverage maps themselves could be wrong, with excellent coverage in a region that the map says has NO coverage.

So use both the coverage map and actual testing to make a decision.

Thanks for your reply.

This is what I am hoping to arrange; the local CellC shop has not been very helpful in this respect.

Light pink area - it may work or it may not... As they say: "the proof of the pudding is in the eating" so the only way to be certain is to try it out.

it really is a pity that cell c has a really good network with good speeds but poor customer service.
I sent the email attached below to [email protected] about 13 days ago but still no response.
Its really is a pity they they do not give an idea of future network rollouts as it would help knowing whether to wait for cell c rollout or buy the newly reduced vodacom deals. Maybe someone from cell c will be prepared to comment. ie is there some way of finding where new transmitters will be switched on and why is the customer support so poor.?

email sent to cell c 13 days ago.
Hi Online support.
I was wondering if you are able to give me any indication of whether or when this aerial 4459 vlakteplaas will get 3G.
I see a large part of wavecrest in Jeffrey's bay is without 3g. This area is the more expensive part of Jbay so am surprised that it is not covered as many of the property owners in this area would use internet access.
With the possible new vodaCON deal coming online next month I am unsure what to do.
ie if I know it is coming on line soon then will wait and go cell c but if not then will probably have to go for vodaCON.
Also when will you be switching on 3g in Mdantsane just outside east london as I am sure there are numerous interested users of cell c there.
Thanks again
rory.

I want to know this too.

I'd like to know too, been waiting for cellc coverage for ages, we're about 1 km from the edge of the signal :(.

Would be nice to see a roadmap of the roll outs.

I am still waiting desperatley for cellc in sedgefield. for goodness sakes I'am using mtn and the speeds are good but R200 a gig is to much.

In Rynfield Benoni under full signal according to coverage map. Only getting 2MBps downloads though. How do i check which direction the nearest cellc tower is?

Hi there @ Cell_C, We got your 4G installed on the local Cell C tower in this boeredorpie in the Freestate end of january. Got even the Chinese technicians testing in my house. But connection was poor and very variable, sometimes disconnecting. Found only one person , who actually tested it here with Cell C stick much later, but still disappointing. When are you actually upgrading the rest of the connection ? putting in some Fibre maybe ? Fouriesburg, Freestate

I'am starting to doubt that they will have 90 percent coverage by the end of the year.
