:)

How about Harris out, Duminy in, i'm sure JP can tie up and end with spin no worse than Harris, and then we'd have a stronger batting lineup as well ?

^Agreed.

Been listening to the cricket on Radio 2000 and i just have to say that Henry Blofeld is the single most enteraining commentator i've ever had the pleasure of listening to.

That last sessions was by far our worst session of the whole tour. Very dissapointing. With England at 104/4 we had a chance to take the series, but we let it slip.

We cant play that sorta cricket at the end of the year vs Australia cause they will not let you back in, but its only England so we can still take the game tomorrow. Just get those wickets quickly with the new ball and then some application and some fight from the batsmen.

This is the sorta situations that you have to face and overcome to become a great team I reckon, its all mental, and if we want to compete with the aussies we need to step up under these sort of pressure situations and perform (I know, sound all a bit philosophical but thats how sport is:p)

Damn doesn't take much for this thread to turn to all doom and gloom does it? You talked about the English press flip flopping yesterday... :)

These things happen in cricket. One great player and another desperate to keep his place in the team get together and put on a great partnership. I am sure our guys were trying yo "just get those wickets quickly". If sure they would have wanted to get the last wickets in one over! It is sometimes easier said than done. When our guys put on a 200 run partnership is it because the England team were not trying to get them out or because they applied themselves and batted well?

We can still easily take this one... few quick wickets today and then get in and put together some nice partnerships..

seems your rose-tinted specs may cause you to see doom and gloom where it isn't ;)

hmmm...per cricinfo No team has chased more than 208 at Edgbaston. would love to win the series by correcting that stat

2xhmmmm: The highest fourth-innings total at Edgbaston is 279. The best in a successful chase is 211 for 3, a total which South Africa will have to beat to secure a 2-0 series lead.

I am now going to say that your black tinted specs make you see bad news where I do not! Your concern relates to the best successful chase at Edgbaston being 211 runs only... but then you are kind enough to post the fact that only three wickets were lost in achieving that total!!! Now how many more do you think England would have scored versus NZ if that were required to score more?

Also out of interest some of the other winning scores have been (and please take note of the few wickets lost):

1997 England vs Aus 119/1
1996 England vs India 121/2
1993 Aus vs England 120/2
1991 West Indies vs England 157/3

Isn't it funny how you can make stats say what you are wanting them too...

Now when I say I am seeing doom and gloom it is because that is what I am seeing! Call it defeatist attitude if you want...

EDIT : And before you set yourself up to remain silent and then jump up and down and say I told you so if we do lose remember I could do the same if we win, so try to act mature... What I am saying is we haven't lost yet, and are far from it. I would also like to add that it does concern me that Harris got two wickets yesterday. It concerns me that Panesar could play a huge role...

also dont see where we "went all doom and gloom":rolleyes: just an honest assessment of one bad session.

Anyway, on those stats, dont read too much into that.

And as I type this, Ambrose goes, far better ball than Morkel bowled in the whole of yesterday. Exactly the start we wanted, wicket with the second ball.

Records are made to be broken. Test cricket ebbs and flows from session to session. If SA wins every session the game would be over in 3 days but it's unrealistis to expect SA to win every test in 3 days.

Having said that we won every session barring the last 2 yesterday so perhaps England have rested the initiative and momentum from us some what. England will have to bowl pretty damn well on this wicket to force the win and weather permitting there should be a result which makes for a very entertaining 2 days ahead.

I stick by my prediction that we will be chasing 220-240 for victory and provided our openers see off the new ball we will win with 3/5 down... If we lose early wickets the pressure could tell on the middle order and England could pull this one out the fire...
