Pm'ed details yesterday, still no reply.

Steam downloading at 100kbs and YT vids default to 360p.

10mb line. "Premium" Uncapped.

Anyone in the South experiencing issues this weekend? Steam download at around 300 KBps, YouTube cant get to 720p. Home Premium Uncapped, 10mbps.

I've had to switch to a backup capped account with another ISP since Friday :/ (well, since 2 months ago, but I especially needed my actual 10mbps this weekend as I had to reformat my PC and thus had a lot of Windows updates to load)

Curious why the need for DJ to post?

We went from a very open communication structure with him to a support drone that asks people to PM and not much more. For a feedback thread, it has become awfully one sided.
Then we just get a lame excuse as to why he isn't posting.

Sure, I get that he has a business to run and I really don't blame him for taking a step back from the forums after that whole debacle of some guy not reading his T's and C's then flinging shyte all over the forums. But stepping in just to let us know whats up every now and then wouldn't be a bad business decision now would it?

youtube plays at 240p (auto), any higher it buffers....

Man, I'm as understanding and patient as the next guy, but this has got to stop. This is nowhere close to value for money :/

Sigh, I'm in the South, Youtube buffers on 240p, nntp @ 10%.

Okay probably worth chiming in a bit here

Both Shaun and I are MyBB members - have been for years. We know each other through MyBB, the decision to start Crystal Web was effectively a product of observing things on MyBB and several key engagements relating to the business are MyBB members. Our MyBB membership and participation outside of Crystal Web is similar to other members, it represents "own time" edutainment and engagement - well thats the hope - and the extent to which we are active on MyBB as Paul Hjul and DJ largely represents personal
Over the last couple of days I've been working on stuff relating to the FBP nonsense with MyBB providing some background activity while troving through literature. I personally don't appreciate the odd poster in other threads who snarkily tells me to rather focus on CW stuff as frankly we don't tell the doctors on this forum to go perform doctoring or the lawyers to prepare for court. Because we are passionate about this industry we naturally pour considerable energy into communicating and making an effort far beyond the simple commercial aspects of CW - we naturally do but we do still take some personal time and spend that personal time doing things that clear our heads - traditionally like posting in TK.
However this also means that as Paul Hjul and DJ we are most often on MyBB as an alternative to watching cat videos or series and in the same way as JvZ puts a lot of personal energy on some threads but is missing at other times we aren't always active. Somethings could quickly kill our level of activity on this forum that is entirely unrelated to Crystal Web. Ultimately being on MyBB in private capacity is often like being at the bar* feel free to ask us a question about things and so on but know that we aren't necessarily in the office and have ready access to all the files, rep accounts are different.

We took a conscious decision to utilize MyBB as a benchmark for the business because it brings with it some of the most demanding (in various ways) customers possible and allows us to develop the sort of open communications strategy that we want, we do this with both private capacity communications and with the official crystal rep rep accounts (now plural).

Many things have happened more quickly in CW than was originally expected and some things that should have rolled earlier have been beleaguered by delays - as everybody in technology knows ...
One of the places this has caused us to run into a bit of a challenge is social media communications. Most businesses have a social media spokesperson PR type appointment
Shaun and I handle Crystal Web communications of this nature. When Steph has come on board as part of support management a rep account was created - at the time Shaun was pretty damn swamped as well - but now there is a new problem some customers circumvent the "junior" account and the ability to develop the right sort of communications from support as a process in its own right, to get to the stage where support reps function primarily in delivering support and the management rep does communications (and I pontificate ...) so it is creating a bit of a blob. Shaun is truly busy the whole time with other really important CW things when working (I get to slag off sometimes ... after all it is the Jbay Open at the moment) and the odd bits of time he gets end up going to sleeping and decompressing. I really don't know nor fundamentally care why but that time to decompress and watch cat videos isn't being spent on MyBB.

The eventual plan is to see a team of CW reps on the forum with some specialization between support, "sales" and communications, one of which is managed by Shaun primarily. At the moment however we are at the one rep account needed with occasionally a second. I tend to post from time to time, but usually in a pontificating manner ;)

Unfortunately some of the most taxing challenges that the business has had to face cannot be discussed publicly due to confidentiality agreements and so on, but I can assure you our preparedness to go to the trenches for customers has sometimes brought a fairly heavy price tag and disruptions to the business with certain things needing to change. None of this changes the fact that as long as we are permitted to we will always push for informed engagement in this industry - which is reflected both in the answers we give when asked for comment by the press and in our activities on this forum - but this commitment isn't about the business bottom line and it isn't something that we want to allow to impede the development of more streamline processes for a mass customer base.

* I actually have a situation where there is a coffee shop in Jbay which I simply cannot go to after 2 years without being approached about something relating to the residents association and our beloved municipality - and by different people - and it isn't a problem, it doesn't make the place any less nice fundamentally but it does mean that I sometimes stay at home and WAB on MyBB.

Thanks for that.

If only for a little bit of insight as to why the flow of communications slowed down to a trickle and both you and Shaun all but abandoned thread when you were needed the most, having a post like this is reassuring.

I agree. Thanks Paul.
I would really like to see an update from CW management on the state of the network, however.

right now there is a spike in CT that is being looked at however there is still a fair amount of slack overall - the peak demand is from about 16h30 until 01h30 (a lot of downloads flair off at 0h00 (on the 30th June at 23h59s60 :D)

all and all our pipe continues to grow and we are really pleased with developments on that front (some sensitive commercial things kick in in talking about some things there)

...I've been working on stuff relating to the FBP nonsense...

What's the deal with this? I'm still waiting for the announcement of the Cape Town "meeting" where they will allow feedback from the public. As a very active blogger, and as someone who has dabbled in Youtube, I've read the draft regulations and I find myself wondering what the government is smoking. There's so many questions about these damn regulations that it seems to me like a person who has no idea how the internet works wrote them up!

Let's just say that they are serious about controlling the kind of content that children have access to (we all know it's #1, a way for the government to earn more tax money, #2, a way for the government to control the internet as a media/communication channel), the biggest question on my mind is how the hell do they plan to monitor and control this? They can't deal with regular day to day governing and now they want to do what the US and China struggle to do?

Also, I am in Cape Town and things are a bit slow (browsing and Twitch). Gaming is thankfully still fine.

With all due respect Paul Hjul, you say that you took a conscious decision to use Mybb as a benchmark, that means that as the owner/director/shareholder whatever you want to call yourself, you have a responsibility to communicate with your customers on Mybb whether it's via this thread or PM. The fact that you allow yourself to ignore my PM's speaks volumes of the kind of attitude you have for your business. As an owner of a business, you should be jumping up and down, bending over backwards to help your fellow clients on Mybb. It is your duty to put aside your "personal time" on Mybb in order to resolve issues which your support agents are clearly not capable of doing. YOU are a director and YOU should be doing everything possible to make your business succeed. If you think that complaining about the mods (garyvdh, bwana) is more important then helping you customers, then you are not fit to be a director and should resign.

This isn't a support channel, and either are PMs

:wtf:

Try get hold of Paul or Shaun via their official support channel when you need them. Let's see what responses you get.

Mybb is the only way I can send a PM to either Paul or Shaun and I will continue to do so if need be.

Why do you need the execs? They have support people for a reason.
