To crystal web support, any chance of you fibre services coming to fibrehoods too?

Just switched over to my new CW account. Right off the bat I can tell that browsing is a little snappier. I hope this is a sign of wonderful times to come. Speed test confirms I'm getting 100Mbps.

Edit: I can't login to the portal on CW's website. And the premium news server settings don't work, according to Newsbin Pro. The backup server does work but doesn't give great performance.

I had the premium server configured as per the settings in the welcome email:
- news1.crystalweb.co.za
- port 119
- no SSL or authentication
- 10 max connections

2nd edit: Tried adding the primary server into SABnzbd and it couldn't pass their test function. I assume this means the issue isn't with the software I'm using.

Streaming on CW was awesome yesterday. Chat support told me I won't have access to the portal until the new one goes live. And they said they don't offer support for the news servers, of which the premium one still doesn't work for me. Bummer. :(

what, can't your client connect to it? post a trace route to it and lets see if it's maybe being blocked/filtered somehow. I know NextGen (the upstream for CW's news server) sometimes has these issues.

Neither Newsbin Pro nor SABnzbd will connect to the premium server. The backup server works and my old Afrihost server worked too.

Here's an MTR to the premium server:

Looks fine to me?

looks fine, what exactly is the error on the client? timeout? auth?

do a regular tracert from command prompt and post here, odd how winmtr shows all good but connection times out

Sure. Looks the same to me.

Odd issue :wtf:

Just checked again and the primary server most definitely still doesn't work in both Newsbin Pro and SABnzbd. I get timeout errors in both.

And I'm taking great care to use the settings provided to me:
- news1.crystalweb.co.za
- port 119
- no SSL or authentication
- 10 max connections

I even tried deleting all server settings and adding them again from scratch, several times. No effect.

just realised thats the IS server, not the premium one?

The primary server address I was given was news1.crystalweb.co.za and the backup was news.crystalweb.co.za. The backup one works, albeit pretty poorly.

Alright forget whatever the email told you and try the following:

Setup primary server:
196.26.208.250
No auth
Port: 119 (no SSL)
9 Connections

Setup secondary server:
5.200.22.145
Use your CW given user/pass
Port 119 (no SSL)
9 max connections

Let me know if the above works.

Primary server times out as usual. Trace route to the address looks same as I posted above. Secondary server works fine.

So you're having trouble using the IS news server, on an IS account which is VERY odd... No idea, sorry.

Maybe there's a list of authorised users that CW maintains, and I just wasn't added to it? If the news server doesn't respond to unauthorised users, then I wouldn't get an auth error.

I'm not even using a non-CW DNS. And I haven't ever had issues getting news servers to work until now, and in any case it's only this one server. I have to assume the issue isn't on my end.

Thanks for the help though. Really appreciate it.

Nope, try getting a free WA 1GB account and see if you can use the news server with them, if you can, you know it's a CW issue.

I have a free WA account. I'll test it out later this morning. Thanks.
