At this moment I'm downloading a file from microsoft.com (a Outlook update) @ 4.3 - 6.9kb/s.

Time remaining for the 12MB file is 30 minutes. Is that correct?

Is this what shaping/protocol prioritizing is all about on MWEB Uncapped 4096k at 10:24am on a Wednesday Morning?

And this is a constant occurrence. Typically everyday. Please assist.

Greatly Appreciated.

doing that will get u a phone call to change it back as that switches u to saix bw
and worst case it can get ur account terminated -> ppl from mweb shouldnt be telling u to do that
edit: my speeds are fine still 4.15mbit down/.48up from the paris speedtest server and 4.2mbit down/.55up from the jhb one (my line is syncing at 10mbit, b4 it synced at 10mbit itd do about 3.4mbit - guess the overheads are coming out of the total line)
however im on the mweb "gold" account from openweb, it is still a @dslmweb.co.za username tho

Thats very strange as I was given this advice by Mweb Guy who is the official rep for MWEB on their Free the Web Facebook page. I believe MWEB's own IPC links are congested and they are telling users to use SAIX until Telkom can upgrade their IPC links.

interesting, i want to speak to the same person so i can get told by them, then retain that as proof if they want to ban my account for "bypassing their shaping"

i was also told to remove the dsl from my username from the mweb rep ...

I am definitely keeping the proof of where I got told to use SAIX. Just in case.....

The remove the dsl part from your username, was temporary while SEACOM were offline. You'll receive a very quick call from MWEB to change it back, or you would be paying for a business package. MWEB's like the weather, 4 seasons a day.

Thanks for all the replies.

Still struggling, tried that suggestion, and it remained the same,

here is my Speed test for this morning on this account.

http://www.speedtest.net/result/910879079.png

Seems like my Upload speed stays at 0.4 where it's expected to, even though the download speed drops below the upload (unusual?)

I've had worse Speed tests such as:

http://www.speedtest.net/result/878300829.png

It shouldn't be a line problem as I'm like 300m from the exchange (I can see it from here) and the stats in the router indicate that the line is 'healthy' (looking at Attenuation and SNR Margin.)

I find it interesting that some guys get 3.4mbps all day on the same account and line. hmmm.

I was told to change my username as well, and I confirmed that there are no extra costs, so they better not even think about charging me extra. -.-

Changing to dslmweb still gives me horrible response, so until they fix that, I'm sticking to the mweb only username...

Hae you tried a different account? If you're getting significantly better speeds on another account it's definitely an Mweb problem - if not, it's Telkom (Exchange may be faulty or congested/overcontended).

On my 512k line yesterday I was getting 0.09mbps on a speedtest to JHB and in game pings of 300+ using the @dslmweb login. Phoned mweb and was told that I'm *supposed* to be using the @mweb login (I am unshaped). Made a hell of a difference.

Interestingly, my fastest speeds are on my old prepaid local only axxess account. Was getting the full 52KBs downloading from international sites but couldn't browse a number of local websites... bizzarre.

They can't ban us for giving us the wrong solution's. They also told me to change my username and I refuse to do that and get my account banned. I think this is more a telkom issue as my problems started since the upgrade. how can telkom get away with this

I re-applied for a mweb account (had the 4mb uncapped, but was never 4mb, more like 384 speeds) so this time I chose 384 to see how it goes. Well, my 384k account downloads at 4mb speeds. (I still have a 4mb line as I use a capped unshaped 4mb account with cybersmart)
So I phoned them to ask if they will bill me for 4mb account, they told me to ADD the dsl part to my username to sort it out. Why then did thy send me the incorrect username in the first place? I don't think I will change it thank you, enjoying the 4mb speeds while only paying for 384...

There will be a certain amount of loadbalancing taking place onto SAIX wholesale bandwidth until such time as we secure additional bandwidth for our IPC network. if the 'MWEB Guy' has assisted you in switching realms in this manner then you have nothing to be concerned about.

Kind Regards
MWEB Operations

Hey OPS well done, I can live with the growing pains for a good product, you guys are obviously doing well.

Thanks Shayd

Growing pains can be, well painful, but each one comes with a valuable lesson on how we can improve our products and service delivery.
Honestly I can't believe how far we've come from when we were testing the IPC network back in January and with the knowledge I have of the determination and dedication that's gone into taking us this far I have every confidence that no amount of growing pains are going to hold us back for very long.

Aaaaargh. Whole day my Mweb uncapped 4mbps has fluctuated between working (2-5% of the time) and not. When I say not, any site which isn't mweb.co.za, telkomsa.net or saix.net takes about 3 minutes to open the page, local or international. FTP seems to work fine to IS boxes and email is generally OK, but downstream http is just dying, so i can write webpages, but can't test them on server. Will call Telkom / Mweb in the morning. Have line with Telkom and ISP is Mweb. I hope this doesn't carry on much longer... :(

I have been getting really bad download speeds on my MWEB 4Mbps uncapped account recently. Read about removing the dsl part from my username in this thread. I tried this and the speeds are much better. @MWEB Ops, who can I contact at MWEB to verify that I can use the username without the dsl part. I called your call centre and they know nothing about this or anything about IPC capacity problems.

Well everything has been slow for me today. Glad I cancelled. Just this one month notice I have to live through. Openweb Gold here I come.

I tried removing the dsl from the username, but I keep on getting the landingpage of mweb that says I should change my username to include the dsl... Anyone else getting this too?

And why does removing the dsl work for certain people but not for me?
