Cybersmart...:(

Hell i don't care about the comment. I want it resolved! I have noticed this more and more lately. I download a 60 Mb file and suddenly 150mb is gone? Im too scared to download anything lately because i don't know whether my 200mb download will result in a 500mb "hap" out of my banwidth?

Im glad im not the only one experiencing this. I have also noticed this while using torrents, the total download(up and down) is always almost double(or feels that way) when i look at my apparent usage:mad:

Yes good people speak up! Cybersmart "assuered" me that it is impossible. I'm telling you they should attend to it ASAP but they don't! I just get the email saying that it's not possible.ALL CYBERSMART USERS. Make sure the bandwidth you use is correct and corrosponds with that od the usage tracker. 3 people complaining about the same thing aint just a coencidence!

What i will do is im gonna download a specific set amount with no browsing(will be hard :D) and then see what my before and after is for my usage monitoring. The thing is most people just monitor where they are in a month with respect to "how much is left for the month" but don't really pay attention to what the expected decrease in a usage sense should be for a certain amount of use.
Its like filling your car, and then driving to your closest cafe to find your tank is almost empty? (and no this analogy isn't applicable to people who live in the Karoo :D)

384kbps line throttled to 256kbps?

Hey. I just want to say that I purchased a 3GB/384kbps Cybersmart account in December. I don't have any problems with my cap usage, or at least I didn't notice anything. But I do have a problem with my line speed.

I purchased a 384kbps line from Cybersmart, but I ended up with a 256kbps line. How do you reckon that could have happened? I contacted Cybersmart and they confirmed that my line is running at 256kbps.

First they contacted Telkom (I'm guessing since Telkom provides the line at the Telkom Exchange), and eventually a Telkom technician came over to my residence to confirm that my line is running at 256kbps. As if I didn't know that already. Then the technician told me to contact my ISP (again) and tell them there's a fault with my line.

I wish Telkom can just Die. I can't wait for the time when other companies are allowed to provide telephone lines as well. That's what they need, some competition.

Okay, so I sent Cybersmart an angry email and they told me that they would look into it immediately. The next day, they apologise for the inconvenience and told me that they explained the problem to Telkom and are not sure why the technician didn't know. They said they would refer the problem to someone higher up (I wonder who?).

Anyway, what do you guys think could be wrong? I didn't even know there was a 256kbps line speed option. Exactly how does Telkom specify our line speed? Do they simply do it on a computer? Is there like a whole range of speeds?

Oh, and I had a feeling my line was running slow when I noticed that my download speed never went above 26Kb/s. That's when I logged into my router, and there it was: "Line speed: 256kbps/128kbps".

Weird aint it?

You may be too far from your exchange to sync at 384..

Yip, that might be the case. I know there is a calculator online, which you can use to determine how far away you are located from your exchange, by entering your line attenuation and noise margin values found in your router. I'll try and find the site for you, then you can simply fill in your values :)

Either way - it's just damn freaky, that we pay so much for DSL and then still can't get the bare 384k

Hope you get it sorted E.Prodigy.

/side note - four members now from Strandfontein area :D

Any Cybersmart using Nightrider? That feature more than pays for itself monthly.

Yup, got cybersmart in Jan just as I returned from holiday. That Night Rider is one perfect product for us starved...

Took 2 days to activate the line but otherwise all wentwell. Nice info from their website with regards to usage tracking, and ticket tracking as they expose the support system.

Yeah, on a 4mb line Nightrider was not an option until just before December, I subscribed 2 days ago and yes, huge value for money there, R25 for effectively 15gb. Now I just need to get Orbit's scheduler to work properly. So far I have been totally unsuccessful.

Jeezus - I'm only getting 8.0kbps out of my 384k line now.
Usually at least 20kbps during the day :o

Come on el Bleacho!!!!!!

So glad I changed to telkom do2, even though it turned out to be quite a mission, it was worth it in the end.

This weeks episode is sweet Shake :D Kenpachi FTW!

CYBERSMART = IBURST

Hey All

I have been getting K@K service from this f@rken ISP since before Xmas.

Today - AGAIN browsing hit and miss... disconnects and constant page refresh to finally load the bloody site.

Max download speed = 5.6k! Usually in the 20s to 40s.
3GB purchased just to finish downloads started last freaking weak!!! Constantly having to resume or reload from scratch!!!!!!!!!!

Cybersmart helpdesk - THERE IS NOTHING WRONG.

ARAAGAGARAGGGGGH.

* eyes the brother's iBurst modem... *

Hehe I'm sure it is :D
Though I know what's happening as I'm up to date with the manga.

But yeah as far as Cybersmart is concerned, I'm moving off from them at the end of February.

Just feel that DSL is a bit of a waste for me now.
Don't download as much anymore, hardly spend anytime in front of my PC and only download Bleach every week.
As for other warez, there's just so much of it around.
It's easier taking a flash or discs around to friends then bothering to mission to get a 700MB file down in 5 hours

So I'm opting out to 3G for browsing and the weekly download of Bleach. :o

I've been having the same problem and there is most definitely something wrong, to the point that I have been asked to swap to a more expensive [email protected]mart account instead of the normal xxx@cybersmart account in order to get any sort of performance from my internet.

I really do query the motivation for wanting your clients to pay extra for a clear degradation in your own service offering.

However on the flip side I have not experienced bad service from Cybersmart even in this regard they have tried to be accommodating but that is only because I bypassed their support engineers and contacted the managers. Before that I was also told that everything is fine.

There is nothing wrong, but spend more to fix it

F@rk... Why has it been working without a hitch and at blazing speeds for more than 4 months, then, the day before Xmas it tanks... they say it is not their problem... others are having the same problem... they then say its Telkom... it turns out not to be Telkom... then they say it is a bandwidth availability issue... that magically resolves itself for a week... they say that there may be a problem that will result in slow browsing speeds... disconnect after disconnect.

Now, it would seem, the solution to the problem is an upgrade to a more expensive package. For how long before another more expensive package becomes a solution for more troubles.

There is nothing wrong according to the helpdesk. So, a 384k connection is meant to yield constant reconnections and download speeds of under 6k!!

NIce!! I time to upgrade my line, I didn't even know they had changed this.

Cybersmart

Many of you were correct when you said my distance from the exchange could be affecting my line. Cybersmart have just confirmed that my line can only synchronise at 256kbps, so they've agreed to compensate by giving me 1GB of data cap FREE per month!

Amazing hey, 4GB for the price of 3GB.

I'm really liking their service!

But I wonder now, if I wanted to upgrade to 4Mbps would I be able to do so? Can my line ONLY support 256kbps?

Yup, if you're line is only able to support 256kbps, you won't be able to upgrade any higher.

That being said, you must really be far from your exchange or have some truly horrible cables from the exchange to your house to only be able to get 256kbps =P
