Discovery Vitality 2023

That's what I thought.
I drove my self mad to get to diamond and starting to think it's not actually worth it.
I missed doing by 150 points last year(I wasn't watching my points and just assumed I made it) as I've been achieving diamond for the last 8 years.
I missed some from health check
And my fitness was capped at 30 000
So besides travel isn't there more discounts or cash back(miles back) for being on diamond?

I have a free discovery bank account. If you buy flight tickets via Discovery (on diamond) :

1. I guess I need to transfer funds first to the debit account to purchase the tickets?
2. Are Flight tickets purchased on a debit card subject to the same protections / services as purchased with credit card e.g. dispute resolution, free travel insurance
3. Do flights purchased with Discovery CC get travel insurance?
4. Are flights booked via Discovery flexible in case or changes or refunds due to non-travel. I see Kayak offers this for the flights I was looking at.

Thinking of potentially applying for a gold CC to facilitate the above (tickets to Aus and NZ) and after I come back, to cancel the CC because from what I understand if I get this, then I will need to also play the game for spend limits etc with Discovery going forward (which could be useful for Woolies Cashback, etc)
I think there's two hurdles you need to consider:
  1. There's a "waiting period" before you get the discount so you need to have the Bank product for a few months prior to purchasing the tickets - I think it might have been 3 (or even 6) months
  2. The discount is dependent on the average credit card spend (did you meet the threshold)

Is the "not guaranteed points" part linked to selecting a pharmacy/grocery/fuel tiles? If so, I agree that it is like gambling now as I do not go fill up nor go to a pharmacy every week, so I have a a very good chance of selecting a blank every week...unless they do not place it on the game-board if there is no spend. Let's wait for next week and see what happens.

I think the changes only gonna happen at the end of Q1.

So I am on diamond on vitality health and qualify for the 30-35% there. That's all I am interested in for now, so having said that, is my best option still to get a CC to get the benefits of travel insurance (if offered with their CC) or to pay in advance on debit card?

Also unsure if flights book with them are flexible or not

That's a bit of a bummer and Discovery is pulling a fast one on us as they have ended the drive and exercise points to miles rewards from end of Dec, meaning guaranteed less rewards in the interim until they implement the next iteration of rewards. Checked in with them and they confirmed expected go-live date is sometime in March.

They should have just extended giving us exercise and drive points till the implementation of v 3.0

Yeah I just realised now theres no point overachieving your goals from a discovery perspective. Until V3.

As expected it was indicated in the discoverer brochure for Q1. Although they did indicate the new drive rewards should of been live in December. I guess they missed their own deadline. Yea it does suck because points to miles was fairly significant. Was getting 1k miles every week. So it was worth around R650 -R800 per month.

Please direct me to info on the Vitality Virtual Events? They mention it in the 2023 Vitality guide.

Did anyone get the new fancy gameboard today ? Mine was as per the old version. Apparently you have to have the bank app to get the new gameboard but I have that and nothing new.

The new game board hasn't been released. Probably with vitality 3.0 apparently launching 1 March?

I find it funny how they harp on about the importance of exercise, but cap the points in a clear attempt to make it harder to get enough points to reach the diamond level. But they also dropped most of the benefits of being on diamond years ago, so it didn't matter to me. But it is all indicative of how dishonest they are.

I can only guess at their thinking, but perhaps they don't want people reaching diamond purely via exercise points. Other things are important, like getting you health check done and having those numbers in range, buying healthy food items (yes, I know you can game that system as well). Someone could be horribly overweight, yet still go to gym every day and stroll on the treadmill or just get a smoothie, and hit diamond that way. They did introduce the weekly goals to incentivise people to continue to exercise a healthy amount even after reaching the annual fitness points cap.

Has anyone been able to access the "WELLTHFund" dashboard, or has that not yet launched?
