I won an Echo on here two years ago, but then moved house and with it I bought a new router (the router at the previous house belonged to the owner - I was a tenant). Anyway, after many weeks of struggling to get the thing paired to my new WiFi, I gave up and called Amazon. They told me to contact Amazon in the country where I purchased it. The more I tried to explain that I have no idea of which country it comes from, the more the lady insisted that she cannot help me.

So I sold it at Cash Crusaders.

Now I have a Google Home and it's much less full of crap. It also works nicely with my home automation stuff

We’ve got the Echo 5 and a couple of dots.

And on the privacy issue, I discovered by accident the other day that the Alexa app has recordings of everything you ever asked. Actual voice recordings of you asking to play Bucks Fizz greatest hits 2 weeks ago.

On iPhone it’s under More/Settings/Alexa Privacy.

Yep, it stores every command. I didn’t know about the voice recordings but it has text recordings of your requests.

My history is basically “Alexa, make cat sounds”.
 
I've got a Google Home Mini that I won here at MyBroadband. It's in the kitchen but don't use it all that often.
 
Have a couple of Google speakers, but honestly, use them more for Chromecast enabled speakers rather than always listening speakers.

Yes, the kids played around with them in the beginning, and still ask them for background noise when they go to sleep, but I can't remember when last I said "OK Google".

Pity that RSG and other SABC radio stations fell off TuneIn -- there's even less reason to use the speakers nowadays.
 
I've got four.
2x Google Minis in the bedroom
2x Google Homes in the lounge

I may pick up another Mini for the kitchen. I like the sound of the Homes, it's nice to have music playing when I have guests over. The Minis don't have great sound, but they're great for playing podcasts or music while relaxing in bed reading.

They all work great with my smart lights as well.

How hard can it be to give each user the option to customize the wake word? Should be piss easy.
