Isn't resetera that place that drives their agendas by harassing developers?![]()
Doom Eternal's soundtrack released today and id Software seems to have mixed it poorly themselves to Mick Gordon's dismay
From the twitter thread transcribed: Mick Gordon responded to the tweet thread with this: I kind of get the impression Mick Gordon isn't happy with how Bethesda's been handling his music for Doom, considering he made this comment a couple months back on a fanmade cover of The Only Thing...www.resetera.com
Yup, that's them. I usually loathe to use anything from them (as they are so identity politics driven), but they did consolidate the bits of info that were available elswehere fairly concisely.Isn't resetera that place that drives their agendas by harassing developers?

Mick's Twitter and YT comments are legit however and do indicate that something went a bit awry between his original vision for the tracks and marketing/sound engineering.

Gordon responded, offering an explanation: he didn't mix that track. Apparently the composer mixed a "small handful" of them, which haven't been compressed.
He doesn't sound too impressed, suggesting that he wasn't involved in the decision. Following this, a fan allegedly reached out to the composer on Instagram, which they shared on Reddit, asking if he'd work with id on future Dooms. "Doubt we'll work together again," he said.
I reached out to Gordon to get more details on the mix and his relationship with id and Bethesda.
"I take a lot of pride in my work," Gordon told me. "It’s all I do, it’s all I have and I pour my heart and soul into it." He added that he's still trying to understand the situation himself and has no further comments at this time.
I knew something was up when they had that rap-backed TV spot commercial.Nice. Changed my steam review to negative. Well done bethesda... well done...

A refund would be a good start to reward them, but I can't see that happen. There's little to no reason to continue supporting Bethesda. If you couldn't tell with 76 they are quite ****ed, then this should be it.I knew something was up when they had that rap-backed TV spot commercial.
I've been spending some time on the DE forums this last week. They are super quick to reply and censor users posts on the MG topic, but leave actual suggestions/bug complaints unanswered.
Proof, yet again, that Bethesda are poison.
It's not just the OST its the ingame music as well (from the various things I've read and watched unless they are wrong). It seems if they totally ****ed him over. This Mick Gordon debacle is an odd case. Suddenly, every social media commentator is an audiophile. As it stands it is only the OST, but when you read what the commentators have to say, many have noticed it in-game which isn’t the case. Ignoring that the OSTs are compressed, Gordon did mix those he has mentioned.
To a certain extent people are ready to jump down Bethesda's throat at the drop of a hat, because of their past debacles so at least part of the controversy can be attributed to that, however I disagree re the audiophile comment. This Mick Gordon debacle is an odd case. I don't mind it, but they could have toned it down a bit as well as not make it as souls like as some areas are which contributed only frustration and not fun. I'm just going to don my cans, put up metal, play dark souls III and forget about this **** for a while...Who else don't like the extreme platforming / parkour sections of the game? For me it does not fit into Doom.
I pray that cyberpunk isn't yet another failing of 2020. I mean...
There were probably about 2 sections in the entire game where I found it as annoying. Otherwise it was something different to do in between murderous rampaging.Who else don't like the extreme platforming / parkour sections of the game? For me it does not fit into Doom.

A large factor in Doom 2016's success was its soundtrack, with the expectation being that Eternal would deliver on the goods again because of Gordon's involvement. Secondly the issue of compression and clipping has been the bane of the music industry for years now. While it isn't usually an issue in less complex music (pop, rap, etc) it doesn't take a trained ear to pick up muddy instruments in more complex, layered music like what is present in Eternal. The effect would be very noticeable to most.
Hated it, seemed very out of place, like they where trying to pad the run time.Who else don't like the extreme platforming / parkour sections of the game? For me it does not fit into Doom.
