Yeah you can do that, but you will need to download a license to view the content offline.
Dstvondemand.com even have a download button for the video
 
I'm getting a "Sorry the current video cannot be located" error. Is this because I am browsing through a proxy? My network setup at home is proxy based for various reasons so if the website and VOD Player don't support proxies, that doesn't help me at all. There seems to be no place to enter settings in the player. Any suggestions?
 
I really fail to see the point of this.

Surely if you have PVR you would just record your tv show anyway? Why would u watch to stream it to your pc via an uncapped account, when you can just go an download the episode off the net. And "initially be free" means they plan on charging for it. Who would pay for this service.
 
Ok - so I've given DSTV on demand a whirl. It's very quick and easy to sign up and get going. The interface works well, and is intuitive enough - I'm using the desktop application. Videos load quickly and I haven't had any buffering during an episode of Carte Blanch. Overall, not a bad offering at all.

But... and it's a big hairy one :-( The video quality is very poor (In comparison with a 350Mb episode of 24 or Chuck).

Cool concept, and I would definitely use it if the quality were better. Nearly there DSTV!

This is not a step towards IPTV.
This is a step AWAY from IPTV.
Improving on what AXXESS have created with their http://www.axxessdslvod.co.za/ would be a step forward.
Instead, MWEB is supplying people with a service that provides what these people already have with a delay of at least an hour and extra bandwidth cost.

So now what, am I supposed to contact my parents and ask them for their DSTV subscription number, and use that to poach DSTV content with an MWEB uncapped subscription?

Dave, I think you're failing to see that DSTV are clearly limiting this to their current subscribers at the moment in order to TEST their offering. Once they've done so, you can be sure they will launch it as a full blown IPTV offering, where you don't need to already have a DSTV subsription.
 
I see it more as linking their internet service. People who want this will have to get an Mweb account. Hence more subscribers.

But iplayer and hulu is FREE . It's also not tied to an ISP for "Exclusive access" [whatever that might be]. This DSTV equivalent has less content and costs R600 p/m EXCLUDING your internet costs. Technically they are BLOCKING access to things that should be cheap and easily available....that's the trend.. I can guarentee you Hulu/iPlayer would never have taken off if it costs R600 p/m just to access it.

So the only people who's going to use this are people who -already- have DSTV -and- uncapped. Even then these same people will only use it as a supplement for the odd episode they missed , not as a regular source of content. It will be IRREGULAR USE at best since their DSTV PVR will still be much more convenient.

Plus the whole "mobility" and "iphone" stuff becomes totally MOOT since we don't have mobile-uncapped and it costs a fortune on 3G. No one in their right minds will use this service on their phone/ipad/mobile device unless they link up to a WIFI hotspot on an uncapped account [of which i'm not even sure exists in public places]. (unless Vodacom/MTN allows FREE TRAFFIC to Mweb/DSTV)

What's the point of calling it ON DEMAND when its only available for 7 days! It should be available whenever you want even 10 years from now - THAT is what ON DEMAND means! MAJOR FAIL!

Down loading does not even work, Stay with bittorrent its cheaper

Well to just to mention, the popular USA service, Hulu.com works similarly, they keep the last 5 episodes of a series and you better watch them within a given time or it's gone (bascially encouraging you to return on a regular basis vs. watching everything on one day) . The catch however is : It's FREE .

Have successfully installed the desktop app & am busy downloading an episode of FlashForward [on WebAfrica ADSL].

Seems to be working fine except the downloading is seriously crawling @ 14 kB/s :S (on 4meg line)

DSTV on demand SUCKS and is broken

It took 5 minutes to buffer 2 seconds of vid, then buffered again. MWEB uncapped 4Mbps!
 
What does this have to do with MWEB? Any internet connection will do wont it?
