DStv ON DEMAND via MWEB ADSL

LOL this is clearly aimed at those rich folk living in the few 10 meg line enabled areas. This is so too little too late imo.

I just watched a very choppy Carte Blanche and didn't see an ad. Maybe they are in the other ones.

So it is not High Quality either... ?
*edit* Do you have to wait for streaming like a Youtube video? Just asking Coz, feedback is needed on this product.

I like this, but there are a few things I would like.

First off, its a stupid aspect ratio 4:3 or 5:4 or something. It looks crap on my 16:9 aspect ratio monitor which by the way most modern tv's are.
Also would be be nice to have an external app or use something like divx web player to play the video because i want this full screen on my second monitor while working... flash doesnt allow you to do that - as soon as you click something it switches from full screen back to the browser window - very annoying.
It would be nice to have some documentary channel content like Mythbusters, Deadliest Catch etc.

Step in the right direction though.

You can keep flash full screen on second monitor there is a registry hack for it. google is your friend

Good point about the aspect ratio.
Regarding the separate player, you can download the files and wach them with a player. However, it is limited to windows media player due to it being wrapped with windows media DRM

Quick scenario I come home from a braai etc.. but I missed story X or rugby game Y so now I have to wait for it to be rerun. Or I can just click click watch it!

No, it is constantly downloading. Pausing doesn't help and when you replay it has to download again.

I also see there is no cookie set, so you have to login again every time. (maybe this is just me, but I've not seen this happen on any other service)

The delay between the actual broadcast and being able to stream the show is one of those fuzzy things.

You cannot, from work, log onto your account and watch the live game as it happens, no matter how much you demand.

@Tanya35 There are any other services like this in South Africa? What a pile of crap.

Just downloaded the "DSTV on demand desktop" app. Did a search for content.... what do you know? ALL the supersport channels except supersport 6. That's the one with F1 races. !@#$%^&*. :(
I mean, WTF? What has DSTV got against F1 fans? And as an aside, DSTV are one of the few, if not the only as far as I'm aware, broadcasters in the world who, despite the FIA stating that all F1 races must be broadcast 'free-to-air', still manage to get away with demanding the full R529 a month subscription to watch them. I mean, how do they get away with that one? I've watched F1 races live and free to air in the states, UK, New Zealand, Australia, Italy, Germany and France. FFS, I'll bet Mawson base in the frikken' antarctic gets a free satellite stream. But no - not us. Pass me the vaseline, I'm getting a bit dry here.

UK VPN and BBC iplayer, here I come. [Rant over now. Thanks for listening.]

MWeb ADSL "only"? Not quite:

Registered with only my DSTV details and no Mweb details (don't have Mweb ADSL).

Registration successful, can login and watch stuff on my WebAfrica account.

WOW we have a bunch of grumps on myBB!

Guys this is good news,I have a HDPVR and some times forget to record something plus if you access shows vie DSTV on demand THERE IS NO ADVERTS :)

And how about this, your parents/friends/family has DSTV you dont, but you do have a uncapped account and living in a apartment, all you do is log in and watch what you with with DSTV on demand IP!

In fact, you could cancel your DSTV account, use your ***es and get TopTV and befit from DSTV stuff vie the web and still have satellite TV with TOP and Save R250 a month or so :)

What an insufferable bunch of whiners.

Does no one see that this is a very solid first step toward some kind of IPTV type of setup?

Does no one see that the partnership between MWEB and DSTV lock Telkom out of launching such a service? Their silence on the uncapped front had me thinking that was twhat they had planned...

This is a good thing, maybe not the most exciting thing in its current format but I reckon: watch this space.
