DStv ON DEMAND via MWEB ADSL

Guys,

Just got an e-mail from them (DSTV). New software update that includes DSTV on Demand for HD PVR and wait for it....Series recording! Awesome, can't wait to get back home and using this function. Thanks DSTV.

MWeb ADSL "only"? Not quite:

Registered with only my DSTV details and no Mweb details (don't have Mweb ADSL).

Registration successful, can login and watch stuff on my WebAfrica account.
They seem to have relaxed the streaming part. Maybe the download will fail. Have you tried the desktop download app?

yet another fail

Just downloaded the "DSTV on demand desktop" app. Did a search for content.... what do you know? ALL the supersport channels except supersport 6. That's the one with F1 races. !@#$%^&*. :(
I mean, WTF? What has DSTV got against F1 fans? And as an aside, DSTV are one of the few, if not the only as far as I'm aware, broadcasters in the world who, despite the FIA stating that all F1 races must be broadcast 'free-to-air', still manage to get away with demanding the full R529 a month subscription to watch them. I mean, how do they get away with that one? I've watched F1 races live and free to air in the states, UK, New Zealand, Australia, Italy, Germany and France. FFS, I'll bet Mawson base in the frikken' antarctic gets a free satellite stream. But no - not us. Pass me the vaseline, I'm getting a bit dry here.

UK VPN and BBC iplayer, here I come. [Rant over now. Thanks for listening.]

No F1? :-( That sucks. Hopefully they are still busy adding content

It is free for existing DSTV subscribers. It doesn't cost us a cent more.

Yes it seems that way. 7 movies, an episode of Lost and one of House is just about all the major offerings.
Just to recap:
  • Streaming works on any DSTV account, and any ISP.
  • You can't pause the stream to catch up (on 384 say) like YouTube. You can watch full screen though.
  • You have to use a DSTV app called "DSTV ON DEMAND Desktop" to download the videos. You need a premium account for this. Can someone try one of the video capturing services?
  • There are no ads or on-screen logos.

I'm amazed people are thinking of streaming to their phones given the cost of internet from the mobile providers

When people talk about streaming to their iPhone, they are talking about WiFi.

you know what would have been cool:

"Hey DSTV subscriber, for being a loyal client, here is a free mweb uncapped account. Oh and by the way you can use it for our video on demand service"

anyone tried using Grabit+ that comes with orbit - to save the video ?

just asking....

Also getting errors. I need mweb details to have it work on my PC. So yes you need you login details to Mweb as well

Just signed up now to check it out - it's sllooooooowwwww... Just buffers - completely unwatchable... Great idea though.

That would cannibalize their subscription revenue.
The amount of people that would discontinue their DSTV subscription and rather pay the 100 + MWeb would far outnumber the amount of completely new customers. It wold just be bad business
