Why would they not? The same service is hugely popular in the UK
Because in the UK it is usually sold as a proper triple play service at a reasonable price. Here, in order to use this you would have to pay for DSTV Premium, Telkom Line Rental, Telkom 4MB ADSL and a 4MB MWEB uncapped account in order to have this tiny value added service. This is a joke of an announcement.
As has been said before this has been available for a few years already and they are just trying to make some noise because of the huge TOPTV launch.

The other important thing to consider is that DSTV is only limiting the offering to those with premium subscriptions in order to test the service.
Once they've done their testing, they can open it up to everyone and anyone - boom DSTV without the massive install costs of a satellite and decoder.

Maybe they are hoping the 8-10 meg unpgrades will make this service more viable...

Yeah as far as I know, but maybe it was previously only available on SD PVR?
Yay, This is Great news for those that did not know that this already Existed...
So I guess you have all the adverts and everything that is in the show.... So you have to download at least a half and hour's "crap" as well, edit the Show and then you can Watch it.... To much work, just to watch an episode...

I just watched a very choppy Carte Blanche and didn't see an ad. Maybe they are in the other ones.

Its between their CDN and you. So it shouldn't hurt the ISP's too much. That being said, the ISP's started freaking out about iPlayer a year ago and wanted the BBC to cover their expenses
I like this, but there are a few things I would like.
First off, its a stupid aspect ratio 4:3 or 5:4 or something. It looks crap on my 16:9 aspect ratio monitor which by the way most modern tv's are.
Also would be be nice to have an external app or use something like divx web player to play the video because i want this full screen on my second monitor while working... flash doesnt allow you to do that - as soon as you click something it switches from full screen back to the browser window - very annoying.
It would be nice to have some documentary channel content like Mythbusters, Deadliest Catch etc.
Step in the right direction though.
