DStv ON DEMAND via MWEB ADSL

Think those that have being complaining about the network, torrents etc, since the release of uncap, have more to worry about.

Personally I dont think we are ready for this. 4mb just does and will not cut it.

You assume more than 5 people will actually make use of this service.

Supply and demand. But if you see the service discontinued ... then no, we can assume less then five people used this service. :)

i dont know if its only me but the link on the dstv site "DSTV on Demand" dont work

Why would they not? The same service is hugely popular in the UK

But I think in the UK have much more stations with far less repeats so if you miss your show, you actually miss your show! I see no urgency in watching something I can probably see 3 repeats of at other times during the day. ^.~

When I pop in to my parents house, I generally have a flick through DSTV on demand, because I don't have DSTV at my digs. Mostly I'll watch Carte Blanch or other programs that I can't get online.

This service will be very useful to me if I can use my parents' subscription to stream Carte Blanch, etc to my digs

Thanks Mweb :-)

Yes it would but you need to be a Premium Subscriber to DSTV and also a MWEB Subscriber. Now that doesnt help you much does it. Yes I know you could use your parents details but you are missing the point then, you have to actualy be a DSTV and MWEB Subscriber otherwise you are stuffed...

I think it will be very usefull if I can access DSTV OnDemand from my phone. Then I can watch MNET at the airport and one of these days even from mid air.

In the UK, you have the exact same situation regarding reruns (Actually worse, as you have entire channels that are the same as another channel, just an hour delayed etc)
Yet people still used iPlayer on their BTVision/Virgin/etc boxes, and use it massively on their computers. BBC iPlayer now accounts for a dramatic percentage of bandwidth usage in the UK. Of interest is the large amount of that total that is accessed via iPhone

Yawn . . . . . . I was expecting another shatteringly unsustainable announcement:D. Instead all we got was a fart at the back of the room/office.....

This reminds me of a previous comment on myBB that stated that MWEB is riding the Good GUY image at the cost of consumers . . .. .we better watch this space carefully ( it looks like this tiger used paint on its stripes !!)

Yes, you can get 20m accounts, but most people are on 1mb-4mb. I only had 8mb, and could use iPlayer without a problem. And their TV content isn't much better than ours. Be grateful that we don't have Coronation Street.
Hell, on my 8mb I could rent HD movies on my AppleTV with only a 20-30second wait time before it started. So 4mb should be more than enough

They just just as well have called this DSTV uncapped .

Having hated mweb for many years , i admit i went over to the dark side , yes , stone me ..... But i wanted uncapped and on 384 it was within reach , i was sold , it took great guts for them and after some great advertising they pulled it off . Next came the IPCONNECT "thing" no idea what that as all about , but i got the sense that a lot of the people thought and felt that it was a good thing good job mweb . Then they make a "awesome news" announcement , the country and the forums are alive a kicking and speculating and waiting and hoping , praying , holding thumbs and breath .

And then this turd gets dropped on us ... Sorry mweb , it just feels like the uncapped thing was done by a vibrant set of people , driven, motivated , insightful and knowledgeable the ipconnect was most likely done by more or less the same group , now one month after the uncapped revolution we get this , to me it feels as if the "people wearing the expensive suites" the "big wigs" those driven by only the short term quick cash , woke up saw the huge influx and profits for the last month , now they want to steer the ship again , so they polished up a turd , and old turd and now they want to feed it to us as a barone .

You can now see something that you missed 1 day ago , well guess what most of DSTV is re-runs of crap you have already seen , o the crap that you are showing NOW , is the stuff we have seen months ago already . It feels as if we are being treated like ignorant children , as if everything that mweb now goes will be an epic success , but this is rather a sad epic fail . Mweb you guys have take 2 great steps forward and now you have taken 3 steps backwards . Please in future use a forum like this to test the waters before trying something like this , in fact use THIS forum , because we will sing your praises and burn you just as quickly , but at least we are not YES men/women . We will congratulate you on success and advice you before you fail . Dont let the idiots in the offices make decisions that will damage your image , by insulting our intelligence .

That I can understand as if you are in a subway/airport etc then having TV on your iPhone would be great but that is not possible here... yet... so this service is still a fail imho

You foget that this is Africa, we we latenc and copper problems to add to our ADSL. forget about the price.

Not true. They repeat for worse than DSTV. They have entire channels that are copies of another channel just delayed by 1 hour or 2 hours (eg. E4, E4+1. E4+2)
I think TopTV will be doing something similar in SA

The only value this adds to me is that as an HDPVR subscriber, I don't receive the On-Demand stuff. And 9/10 can't record things for various reasons. Why is it that HD subscribers pay more for less? Regardless, I won't be using this very often, if at all I think. Not much of a mega-announcement in the least little bit...

EDIT: besides the fact that because of Telkom issues, I am limited to 384 in my area, which renders this service absolutely useless...
