DStv prices hiked up again

dstv, by miles (excluding obviosuly things like darts, county cricket, etc)

Premier League Football, you know, the league in England? DSTV probably shows 10x more live matches.

about 30 pounds. add premier sports, like Premier League football, and this can reach like 40-45 pounds
now saying "see they pay R350 a month, while we pay R600, we are getting ripped a new one" is an invalid arguement, because of economies of scale. sky probably has 10x the customers that dstv has

Sorry, I don't buy that. DSTV is a mature company with a well established user base. There really is no reason why they should be making Billions of Rands in profit every year and STILL increasing their prices other than PURE GREED.

Argh... give us a sport-free bouquet for R300 and charge R900 for the current premium. If sport is so worth it, then put your mouths where the money is.

somewhat agree. however, the price of licencing content, again taking premier league football, increases every year too

sorry, maybe I am missing something, but what does the ANC have to do with multichoice, and the cost of content? not everything is a government conspiracy :)

So are you telling me that no ANC members or their families own major shares in DSTV or the knockoff running of their businesses/contracts. Who are you fooling? IT'S IN THEIR INTEREST TO KEEP THE MONOPOLY ALIVE AND STIFLE REAL COMPETITION.

sport is worth the current rate + inflation to me, nothing to do with putting my money were my mouth is. if they doubled it suddently, then **** them, I would cancel.

then again, if my salary then doubled, I wouldnt care :)

LOL gary you have just described every company on the planet. The question is whether or not 600 rand is worth dstv premium and yes it is.

Who here could drink that out in a night?

The issue with you gary is R 1.00 is too expensive, you pirate everything you can and then blame high pricing. Cd's are too high, games are too high, dstv is too high.

Damn dude companies would not exist if they gave you everything for free.

talking specifically sport again (yes I know not everyone cares about sport), but what some people fail to realise, is that a lot of other countries use PPV models for the "ultra premium" content, and it is not cheap. DSTV mass licences this content, and it is included in the package.

lol digital Sh_I_T tv (dstv) what was of time. haven't watch them in ages

hmm R600 p.m let see (1$ = R8)
vpn with outbreak in UK,US, NL sub: $55 a year. R440/12 = R37 pm
netflix sub: $9 pm. R72 pm
hulu sub: $9 pm. R72 pm
BBC Iplayer: free sub
ITV Iplayer: free sub
4oD (channel 4 on demand): free sub

so for R181 pm i get to stream all the latest From USA and most from UK ;) then i just go to a bar and watch the sports.
and i save R419 pm

Do you for one moment believe the price will be that high if DSTV had proper competition? Do you think the R65.00 extra per month is justified to use your PVR functions. If you do you are an exemplary example of why we are butt raped for everything in South Africa just because the ANC allows that to happen and "protect" the status monopolies. Telkom, Sanral, Eskom, DSTV, etc. Take your pick, get some lube and bend over some more.

And get to drink socially with other keen bar spectators. :)

Wait you go to a bar to watch sports? Does that 181 rand offer sports or do you only socially watch sports?

How much do you spend at the bars watching sports?

I wonder what the average bar would be for let's say

8 hours of cricket.
6 hours of footie
4 hours of rugby

Per weekend then we tally that up and see whether dstv is more expensive than drinking at bar watching sports :D.

Excuse the pun but I smell couch potatoes that are willing to fork out R655.00+ to receive the manure that DSTV supplies to fertilize the potato souls while getting them ready to be cultivated again in a year's time for more cash flow. :D
