E1820 Software and Firmware for MTN?

Hi,

I have a Cell C E1820 USB Speedstick. I am tired of not receiving the "Woosh" that Cell C promised. I will not be renewing my subscription with Cell C. I am now switching over to MTN. I find MTN to be a little slower but at least it is stable. Cell C service was far too intermittent. I want to use my Cell C E1820 modem with MTN. I am looking for the Dashboard Software and Firmware to use for the E1820 at MTN's website, but I can't ascertain which software is the right software to use.

Can somebody please advise me?

Like Tun@ said u don't need to change dash.
Just create another profile in CellC dash for MTN with correct apn.

Yeah, you hit the nail on the head. I am in a good coverage area, and at best I would get an intermittent WHIFF of a WOOOOSH with Cell C. But sadly, the actual WOOOOSH that I was expecting, never materialised :O(

Now, I am with MTN: "Yawn...!", but at least the connection is stable.

Thanks. I saw the dash at MTN's site previously but I was wondering if it would just automatically work with my E1820 Cell C modem, or would it be necessary for me to adjust configuration settings?

I am a "plug and play" person. I just want to stick the modem into USB port and experience the "tada" sensation!

The firmware software listed on MTN's site is self explanatory, however I was wondering if MTN had E1820 firmware or do I always have to download the firmware from the Cell website?

Do you perhaps know how one should safely go about removing Cell C files/drivers/software etc.. from the E1820 and replace it with MTN software/drivers etc...?

Thank you for your input. In the interest of helping somebody who may have had similar concerns to mine I am going to share this exciting little piece of information with you. I decided to be BRAVE, so I inserted the MTN sim card into the Cell C E1820 USB modem. I then inserted the modem into my computer's USB port. My heart was pounding at a breath taking rate. The Cell C dashboard that was already installed on my PC popped up. It displayed MTN-SA HSPA/3G. I began to breath a little easier. I clicked connect. And now without any hassles, I am typing this message while connected via my MTN sim card that is inside of my Cell C modem.

My next goal is to install and if necessary, configure the MTN dash to work with my Cell C modem. I am hoping that it will just work automatically without any configuration necessary. But first I am going to unwind for the rest of my afternoon and after a couple of beers, I will give the MTN dash a bash.

I must confess to the "Grandmaster" that I did not know what an APN is :o( So, I looked it up on Google and was astonished to discover that APN can mean many things.

I assume that by APN you mean "Access Point Name". If so, then that's nice to know, but practically it still renders me clueless :o(

What is the APN name for MTN? And once I have it, what must I do with it? (Please be nice when you answer this aforementioned question because I know that it can be answered in many different ways. I am however looking for the most useful, comfortable, non-technical yet practical explanation, if possible.)

I am currently connected to the internet via my MTN sim card and the Cell C dashboard. However, the Cell C dashboard does not return the MTN Account balance when I issue the query. What must I do to persuade the Cell C dashboard to cooperate with MTN in accordance with my needs?

For MTN data balance send *141*1*3# from the USSD menu
If you using the original CellC dash hit the down arrow beside where it says "self service" & put that code in & push send

I must confess I don't know what "Grandmaster" means, but I am using mobile profile. :)

Next time you need help, just ask. I am similarly comformistic and don't bother investigate things which do not affect me at all (or very little). ;)
 
I am trying to use my MTN sim with a vodacom K3765 modem, but it says sim not recognized.

This wants to update the modem, which it obviously doesn't find. It's not the MTN dashboard.

Any other software I can try?

Edit: NVM, dial up connection with *99# works. :)
