Epic Chinese Android phone

5 weeks! Wow! What were you initially told?

I knew it was on pre-sale and was prepared to wait. They even offered to swop it out for another phone but decided against it.

I'm buying it for my daughter & hopefully it will be here soon. The demand for the phone is very high.

Post Office? They've been dodgy lately. Hopefully it comes through soon

Nope. Still has to be shipped from China. The phone is very popular and stock is limited.

The price has also gone up by $20 since I placed my order.

Once it is shipped its not long. singpost is not bad. China Post takes ages. My tab is only at the post office this week after more than 30days of being shipped. singpost is like 2 weeks. In fact I got my phone very fast.

BTW the phone still going strong and GPS was in china so not using that free app. Tested with another GPS app and it works....

Another thing I'm still using the 1st battery I put into the phone. Battery life is 2 days with HEAVY usage and 3-4 days with light usage.

I'm interested in getting some tablets for end of year gifts. Will definitely try antelife out based on the reviews in this thread.

Maybe I'm old and synical, but I would still blame S.A. Post Office. I order stuff from China all the time (to the UK) and it seldom arrives in more than a week. I've had stuff arrive from Chinapost within two days of ordering.

Wow I'm still waiting for my android tab...... It was detained by some random dude in customs just cause he wanted me to specify a value. When I told him it was a gift that I won on a website. He was like uhm ok I will release your parcel. LOL what a idiot. Anyways will be at the post office tomorrow.

OK my phone arrived perfectly. So far...

Ran a Benchmark as well and got aroung 4900 on Antutu which is not too shabby.

Ordered 2 of these phones. The black one arrived with couriers and the other one arriving with Post office, who knows when.
Will Most probably sell one if it ever arrives

Its no S3, but for $170.00 its a well worth the buy.

Contrariwise the S3 is no Jiayu when you take into account the other things you can get: obviously the dual standby, but also things like a bigger battery ..and that you can get spares *and* a dedicated charger. (I'm really not fond of having to be so damn aware of having to charge all the damn time). Anyhow, having come late to the party :o, and been scanning/reading like mad to get up to speed, one thing that's driving me NUTS is the inconsistency in reporting the WCDMA/UMTS frequencies which range from a mix of 2100 only to 2100 and 850/900. So, could someone who actually *has* one :envy: report back? Is it really 900/2100 - so Cell-C compatible?

Oh, and a quick test of the FM radio please? Which, in itself raises another question: all the unboxing/demo vids I've seen don't show any sign of a bundled (in-ear) 'phones-with-mic cable, which I understand - it's no S3 after all and I have one/can get a whole range of quality ones pretty easily. Which makes the Big Question(tm): does it use the same TRRS assignment as a Galaxy/most other phones (I think BB too)? Here's why I ask:
3.5 mm TRRS (stereo-plus-mic) sockets are particularly common on recent smartphones, and have been used e.g. by Nokia since 2006; this is often compatible with standard 3.5 mm stereo headphones. 2 different forms are frequently found, both of which place left audio on the tip and right audio on the first ring (mirroring the configuration found on stereo connectors). Where they differ is in the placement of the microphone and return contacts. The first, which places the return signal on the second ring and the microphone on the sleeve, is used by Apple's iPhone line, HTC devices, latest Samsung's, Nokia and Sony phones, among others. The second, which reverses these contacts, is used by other Samsung smartphones and some Sony Ericsson phones.[22] One such pin assignment, with ground on the sleeve, is standardized in OMTP[23] and has been accepted as a national Chinese standard YDT 1885-2009.

BTW/FWIW/FYI this site apparently offers a way out of this particular hell.

Will test the radio this evening. Left the phone at home. Was Streaming some radio through tune in radio app last night and forgot to charge, fell asleep.
Im currently using my cell c sim card in the phone. Picks up Perfectly, even when i manually force it to roam on vodacoms network, that works too.
And will pop My HTC Headset in and see that as well.
Any other things that you guys want me to try, please let me know.

Nice........ It just begs the question. Why dont we see more of these phones in South Africa? Sure you can get them from the Pakistan cell shops at inflated prices but unless you take the risk like a couple of people here and on other websites you will be stuck with the brand names only. I think these chinese phones are epic. Android opened so much doors cause no matter the make of the phone if it runs android it can do a lot of stuff no matter the hardware.....

I wont personally go for anything less than the MTK6577 CPU and 1GB RAM. IF you have that then you have a decent phone. The single core MTK6575 cpu and 512 RAM might be a bit laggy but not sure since I never tested one of them before.

Also about beginning/mid 2013 there will be quad core android phones with 4.1 So that will be exciting.
