Another member of the 3% club here.

I'm looking to move to 1Mb Business Uncapped from Afrihost, as I have been running downloads 24/7 for the past few months as you can see.

View attachment 78473

I don't know how much longer I will be downloading 24/7, but I would like to if I want to. So no throttling or shaping. Reading this thread seems a lot of people are jumping on the OpenWeb bandwagon, the Leon Gold (1Mb) is cheaper than the Afrihost option, but how does it compare? Will I be able to max out 24/7, or at least come close to maxing it out?

I'm also willing to check out any other options from other ISP's, provided they can give me what I need at a price near what Afrihost will charge for the 1Mb Business Uncapped (R297)

From my experiences with OW and the various gold level products (Like Leon, Gamer King etc) you won't get even close to maximum speeds during business hours, but during offpeak (6pm-6pm or so) it's impressively fast and maxes out easily. I've heard people on Telkom say they get full speed during the day for downloads, but telkom don't offer a DATA ONLY package, you have to move your line to them >_>

I have just made a post about my experience with Axxess here: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/568721-Axxess-fair-usage-policy-is-totally-ridiculous

I should have stayed with mweb and just upgraded the account like they suggested.

I think you will find some answers on the OW forum. As for staying with MWEB ... you cant compare. MWEB throttle for days on end, while OW shape during the day, but from around 7 to 7 ... happy days, and weekends are a downloaders delight.

That aside, MWEB seems to on the profit trail, and those pesky little customers that treat with impunity come second.

Basjohns comments are 100% spot on INHO.

Your line has always been with them :)
Trust me all your service provider is doing is managing it for you lol

I never really experienced bad service from MWEB, pretty good service all the time actually, but for a simple music streaming service, MWEB did not deliver, so I left, cause I like my music. I was getting constant buffering, very irritating. Asked about it a few times and got a generic "blah blah blah not guaranteed... realtime something..."

The thing that sucked about MWEB the most was their archaic control panel. And the process to cancel an account with them also kind of sucked.

Was that on 1mbps premium? What was your 30 day average?

Standard 1Mbps, I really loved them while that lasted.

I never moved my line from Telkom, thankfully. I was on Telkom before I moved to MWEB and I could never get above 70% of my max line speed, and the international ping would fluctuate terribly. I will see, hopefully I can get hold of a OpenWeb trial, otherwise I'm pretty set on Afrihost.

Sure that either OW or AH will work for you, but bear in mind that you will probably be in for some shaping unless you fork out the kids varsity savings.

Heh, appreciate the vote of confidence. Makes me feel not entirely insane and alone in all this mucking mess we've all trodded into on the Mweb "express".

Hey Disgruntel

You are more than welcome to come back :)

Our network has been performing well.

You must be desperate! trolling members here for bussines ;)

Then tell my why my 4M "premium" account was so much a good "performer" that I was forced or had to leave. PSN gaming via Afrihost mobile is an new experience although there are sometimes lagging issues due to my weak signal but at least I can live with it. I now have many more good games than bad ones. With Mweb this year 2013 was a mess and I never experienced the same level of satisfaction while gaming when I still was with Mweb from about Feb when you guys missed the pot an shat in your breadbasket.

Were you actually ever throttled?

With Afrihost clientzone you are in total control of your account. You can edit, updrade or downgrade, your service or even cancel immediately as long as it's before the 25th, you can even suspend your account for up to 6 months say during financial difficulty and you may alter your payment details. That's for me a winner. The Mweb system is designed to milk you for another few months after you attempted to cancel.

What else could it be I am 100% sure that is what happened while they were testing their new system live on the fly. All I know as that the quality of the service was up and down like a yoyo and it changed dramatically from about February compared to what I was used to before. Changing to another ISP test account at the time everything was back to normal and operating fine. Explain that to me. I was not the only one as there was many others with the same experience. My daughter used to download her series when she visited and she also remarked that the performance was much degraded sos much so that she gave downloading while visiting as it would never finish in time before she leaves as opposed to before ;)

In any event what is it with you trolling these threads and trying to make everyone relating their true Mweb experience out as lies or something. I can swear if I did not know better you are shilling for Mweb, are they paying you something or what or is it just that you have fall else to do?

No, for about the fifth time. I just don't see the point of the torches & pitchforks still. If you're not happy, move on. I'm keeping an active interest in all these threads to see what limits the people are getting throttled as it should hopefully generate a pattern (which it is currently).

Please share the pattern :)

So you continue to keep an active interest but everyone else should desist, - should the content not fit with your agenda - if I understand your post correctly? ( I note you mention ''all these threads'' in plural - which ones are they as a matter of interest).

Without being argumentative or trying to be disrespectful in any way - is there any reason why others may not express their views, after all, it is one of the rights enshrined constitutionally apparently.
I am not always tickled by others opinions but as I said in another post, IMHO there are no wrong or right answers, just the views and opinions of others here. This is not a company specific site, its a public forum, and quite frankly, these forums could be potentially very informative from a consumer and service provider perspective. You have made that clear in your post - you are deriving some information deemed to be valuable to you.

As for seriously, I, for one, would like to see what he has to say, be it appealing to me or not.

I trust you would appreciate my take on the matter as I do yours, and I am sure we agree that others may voice their views and opinions here?:)

No pitchforks at all buddy. I have the same right as you, without any need to be trolled by the likes of you, to give advice and information to any member that wants to know my issues or bad experiences and my views about what happened, what my experiences were and what and where my solutions and new experiences led me. So for the fifth time then I hope someone told you it's got fall to do with you and thus we will continue with our relating of our experiences good or bad to others. Once Mweb get back to sanity then maybe I could reconsider them but at the moment that chance are very slim as at this moment the pricepoint and the most shatty service from Mweb are superseded in quality by much smaller ISP's as well as some bigger ones. Mweb are now the defacto worse ISP between the top few in South Africa. They are back to enriching themselves on the back of other poor individuals that do not know better, back to the days before Rudi help them to become an proper ISP. It's a shame really! So sad! :crying:

I would never stop somebody who is an Mweb user from posting complaints and throttling information. I just don't see why you, SHVAK and seriously are so emotively involved with ensuring that criticism is repeated ad nauseam.

I think you guys should focus either on the issues on your current ISPs or start formulating some substance behind your diatribes. The fact that you said you have been pushed for 30 days on downgrading doesn't seem to have gotten anyones attention. Why not focus on that?
