First election results in

Figures from the DA looking quite a bit better this morning. Seems like the ANC again went for the 11m figure but this time round 1m of that went to the EFF. DA almost a million up on their previous figure. Was very negative about their figures yesterday but this is quite an improvement.

I saw an interesting thing on SABC2 this morning...

There is a party called tha AIC that is got almost 100k votes.

http://www.citypress.co.za/politics/aic-heads-parliament-voters-mistake-anc/

By 3pm, votes for the AIC stood at 51 939. But in its Eastern Cape stronghold, the party has so far gained only 12 617 votes.

They were right next to the ANC on the ballot. They have the same colours as the ANC.
It looks like a LOT of people confused the AIC with the ANC.

I looked now and they are sitting on 17 000 votes in the EC and 90 000 nationally.

I know its hilarious because its the ANC but I would be pretty pissed if it was the DA though.
It was a major oversight to put them right next to each other on the ballot and also for them to have the same colours as a major party.

Everybody seen this map on News24. Shows where the opposition/leading party increased and or decreased. Look towards the bottom of the screen and click on 'Voting Shifts'

Seems ANC only managed to increase in KwaZulu-Natal. Rest of the country shows opposition increasing.

Pretty much the same could be said for the APC. but they've only got 29k votes.

The pace at which the Gauteng results are coming in is frightening. Its like they are being engraved into the computers with a chisel.

Still a chance DA can get Midrand ?

Never had a chance in this election, seeing this is not local elections. Only national and provincial government. I do like to look at the metro's and see what might happen in two years time.

So the DA is going to be the biggest opposition since the start of democratic elections.

oops - not Midrand, Midvaal.

Midvaal is still very much blue on my map. Not that they would have lost it anyway if it was green. There were talks that the government wants to blend Midvaal with a ANC municipality however, not sure what happened to that. That would mean Midvaal will no longer be under DA control.

That's still happening, but it hasn't come into effect yet. The 2016 local government elections will see that change come into effect.

I am going to laugh if they turn Midvaal into ANC by dirty tricks only to loose COJ or Pretoria, or both to DA.
