Hey
I used to have the Samsung Frontier S3 watch that worked just fine for recording runs and gym sessions. Recently its died (well stuck in endless restart loops) so im looking for a replacement. Im quite undecided about the brand so i was hoping some here had some suggestions or comments. I normally run on treadmills and just do basic strength training, crossfit esque or weight machines. I would like to get on the road in the future as i have a planned move to Cape town so perhaps joining a running group once there to meet people. So GPS is fairly important for the future.
What im looking at now is between Samsung, Garmin and Huawei
  1. Galaxy Watch Active 2 - This looks decent and has very good reviews overall. Although it seems like the fitness monitoring side of things isnt that great. Im not sure if that would even effect me really as ill be using it for Discovery points and general monitoring rather than targeted/focused usage of the data. Not sure about battery and GPS.
  2. I was thinking probably the Garmin Vivoactive as i do more general activities, so i assume this means something like the forerunner is a waste as thats targeted at runners specifically i think.
  3. Huawei, i have no idea about. Ive heard battery is great. not sure on the monitoring and app side of things how good it is. Model suggestions here would be helpful and comments about them in general. Especially the app and linking to discovery.
Thanks for any comments

I've had a Vivoactive for about 3 years and very happy with it. Good for both Gym sessions and running. Garmin app is very good as well.

I have the Garmin Venu 2.
Quite happy with it.
Good for running and hiking.

I just got the active 2 yesterday, my wife has had hers now for almost a year. I absolutely love this watch, we're part of a running group amd for her it has worked well so far. I couldn't join the group last night bit will go on Saturday morning and report back on its accuracy in comparison to the rest of the groups distances.

Have a Garmin Forerunner 745. Was using Apple Watches for years before that.

Nothing comes close to Garmin on workout and fitness stuff.

BTW, does the warranty cover a scratched screen? I think my hiking activities scratched the screen a bit.

Garmin has the best support in the industry by far. Wont buy anything else

On the Fenix range the bezels scratch - the versions with the gorilla glass is pretty scratch proof.

I scratched the bezel on my 5x within the first month.
When I got 6x I bought a bezel protector and a glass protector on Amazon. Both still on the watch more than a year later
Yeah I stuck on a glass screen protector and rubber bumper around the watch. Works like a charm.

Would you mind posting a pic of it? Doesn't it ruin the aesthetics of the watch?

The Samsung Watch4 is really good, huge improvement over previous generations IMO. I couldn't be happier. And it has all the fancy features.

What if it is still under warranty? Apparently, you can replace your watch at a reduced price when trading the current one in.

Hands down garmin (I use a fenix 5s - smaller for work shirts - no longer relevant tho:p) use mine for gym, running and hiking. Did a 6.5 hour hike no issues - this is to illustrate long activities. About 3/4 years old now

You get over a scratched bevel quickly on a garmin its meant to be "used"

Face to face? I have found their remote support via email to be completely useless.
Yes face to face. They've replaced 2 of my watches no questions asked. The one I managed to destroy the screen and the other got some water damage.
