FNB duplicate transaction problem - what to do

No reason to jump ship in my case. They are still the best bank by far. Sh_t happens My double payment was sorted out the same day.

Since FNB's latest pricing was revealed I have been looking at Capitec as they seem to be the cheapest alternative apart from FNB's entry level EASY account. Capitec has a great interest rate for positive balances but I am just slightly hesitant in moving my whole banking life across to them.

I have decided to leave R10k in my FNB platinum cheque account (fee saver) and move the rest of my savings into my access bond to "earn" maximum interest...

What kinds of rewards does Capitec have? For me, FNB's eBucks get me back many times my bank charges (ie. interest lost on the fee saver amount I keep in there) every month, and it's as good as cash as I always use it on Takealot or Kalahari. If it weren't for eBucks I'd definitely be shopping around - you're right, their bank charges aren't the greatest.

And here's the latest SMS from FNB:

FNB SMS said:
FNB confirms duplicated transactions have been reversed for those affected and all services are back online. We again apologise to all affected. FNB - An Authorised FSP & Credit Provider (NCRCP20).

Indeed it's sorted the transactions were reversed and that was pretty quick IMO. And I think that is what counts (the time it takes an institution to resolve problems)

People think FNB is the be all of banking, clearly they ain't!

Nothing is for free in this world, somehow someone must be paying for it.

I use Capitec for my bank account, which costs me next to nothing, and Discovery card for my credit card, which earns me around R300 per month in rewards.

yeah fnb might be expensive , but i get a free 4mbs uncapped account and loads of ebucks , its covers more then the bank fees , and whatever i would got as interest at capitec :)

i am low spender i earn around R500 ebucks a month and free 4mps uncapped account is worth R300 i would say.

Ease of use, decent interest, great security, next to no bank charges.

Do you really think you're not paying for these FNB 'benefits' somewhere? :D Much lol.

With Capitec, what you see is what you get. Simple as that.

How do you get so many eBucks back? Do you use your cheque card or credit card? Do you spend only at certain stores?

Was also wondering, I dont get that much ébucks / month. 500 is a lot

I earn around 600 or 700 ebucks a month. Spend more, you'll earn more ;)

You know that's only 70 rand, right?

Nooooo, I thought I was building my net worth at a blistering pace!? Dammit!

Yes of course I know what it is, it was made in the context of the previous couple of posts that earning 500 ebucks was "hard".

The guy was talking about R500 worth of ebucks, which is 5000 ebucks?

Someone is paying for these rewards, just not me. Who do you think is paying when you swipe your credit/debit card without incurring any fees? Everything is already priced in and those not making use of it are paying for those that do. the same with Pick n Pay Smart Shopper.

I earn between R1 300(eB13 0000 to R1 500(eB15 0000 every month spending only on what I would have spent anyway. I don't spend to earn eBucks. The eB15 000 can easily be converted to R2 500 Makro vouchers as I am on level 5 which gives me 40% discount. My total bank fees per month is about R250.00. Please show me how I paid for the R2 500 Makro voucher, directly or indirectly. This does not include the free 4meg uncapped account worth R400.00. Total Value extracted by me every month from eBucks is about R3 000.00. No way I am going to get this in savings/interest if I move to any other bank.

I only use my cheque for purchases where possible. Stopped paying Telkom and Municiple accounts via EFT and now pay for these at Checkers with my monthly shopping. only real change for me was to move my shopping from Pick n Pay to Checkers. Wife still prefers Pick n Pay.

eBucks Rewards for this month.View attachment 130391

Ok I don't earn as much as you do, most was R800 (8000 ebucks) in a single month.

That said, I have had a feeling, the Checkers 30% cap on total spending is not implemented yet, because I could see it on mine, but I can most definitely see it on yours! Additionally, I don't think any of the caps that is implemented on ebucks earning on the credit cards, looks like they are implemented on the cheque cards...

That said, for now I am not complaining :) Like you, I also get back more than I spend with FNB.
I also only changed my shopping away from PnP to Checkers, everything else stayed the same.

Am in the same boat as you 2, I earn R800+ a month back from the bank.....but somehow don't understand how others are not able to tier up the way we have.

My bank has bought me my TV, my coffee machine , my SO's ghd and numerous other things. Also, the uncapped free 4mbps ADSL alone pays for my banking fees

No way I am switching away anytime soon.
